CDL-A OTR Dry Van Owner-Operator

Truck Driver Nation
Indianapolis, IN Full Time | Contractor
POSTED ON 10/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/2/2026
CDL-A OTR Dry Van Owner-Operator

Put your equipment, professional driving experience, and business mindset to work in a nationwide OTR operation.

Truck Driver Nation LLC is seeking an experienced CDL-A OTR Dry Van Owner-Operator to work directly with our transportation operation as an independent contractor.

This opportunity is intended for an experienced CDL-A driver who owns or has authorized control of qualifying equipment and understands the responsibilities of operating as an owner-operator.

We are looking for a dependable professional who understands that successful owner-operator operations depend on more than miles alone. Freight rates, lanes, deadhead, fuel, trip planning, equipment condition, hours of service, and communication all affect the performance and profitability of the truck.

Previous commercial tractor-trailer driving experience is required. Owner-operator experience is preferred.

Operating Profile
  • Operation: OTR (Over-the-Road)
  • Equipment: Dry Van
  • Driver Type: Owner-Operator
  • Engagement: Independent Contractor
  • Operating Area: Nationwide United States
  • Home Time: Based on the agreed operating schedule and dispatch plan
What You'll Do

As an OTR Dry Van Owner-Operator, you will operate qualifying equipment while transporting freight across applicable U.S. lanes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely operate qualifying Class A commercial motor vehicle equipment.
  • Pick up and deliver dry-van freight according to appointment times and load requirements.
  • Review load details, mileage, routing, rates, and operating requirements.
  • Plan trips with consideration for hours of service, fuel, appointments, weather, routing, and available drive time.
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintain professional communication with dispatch while under load.
  • Provide timely updates regarding pickup, transit, delivery, detention, delays, breakdowns, and other load-related issues.
  • Maintain required trip, inspection, delivery, and operating documentation.
  • Properly secure and protect freight according to applicable requirements.
  • Follow applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations, hours-of-service requirements, traffic laws, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain equipment in safe and legally compliant operating condition.
  • Report accidents, equipment issues, cargo concerns, service failures, and other significant operational issues promptly.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, facilities, dispatch personnel, and other transportation contacts.
Owner-Operator Requirements
  • Valid Class A CDL.
  • Verifiable commercial tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • Owner-operator experience preferred.
  • Ownership or authorized operation of qualifying tractor and equipment.
  • Acceptable MVR and driving history.
  • Current DOT medical certification.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable DOT/FMCSA driver qualification and safety requirements.
  • Required registration, insurance, permits, and operating documentation applicable to the independent-contractor arrangement.
  • Equipment that meets applicable safety, inspection, and operating requirements.
  • Knowledge of ELD and hours-of-service requirements.
  • Strong OTR trip-planning and time-management skills.
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to use a smartphone, GPS/navigation, electronic communication, and required transportation systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate trip and operating records.
  • Dependable communication and follow-through while under dispatch.
Compensation

Estimated gross revenue: $5,000–$8,000 per week, depending on freight rates, loaded miles, lanes, deadhead, load availability, operating schedule, and loads completed.

This is an owner-operator independent-contractor opportunity, not an employee salary position. Gross revenue is not the same as take-home pay or net income. Applicable owner-operator business and operating expenses are the responsibility of the owner-operator as provided under the independent-contractor agreement.

Actual gross revenue is not guaranteed and may vary based on freight availability, market rates, operating conditions, equipment availability, and the owner-operator's operating schedule.

Who May Do Well in This Role

This opportunity may be a strong fit for an experienced CDL-A driver who approaches owner-operator trucking as both professional driving and operating a business.

Successful owner-operators understand how rate per mile, loaded miles, deadhead, fuel, lanes, detention, equipment costs, and utilization affect the performance and profitability of their operation.

We are looking for an owner-operator who can operate independently, communicate professionally, protect their equipment and freight, maintain accurate records, manage time effectively, and consistently meet transportation and safety requirements.
