The (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) CLS plays a crucial role in our healthcare organization, contributing to accurate patient diagnoses and treatment decisions. The CLS is responsible for coordinating and supervising activities of laboratory staff engaged in performing routine and non-routine duties. This position will also be delegated as general supervisor and must perform all duties as delegated by the laboratory director.
Demonstrates sound decision-making skills involving complex laboratory tests and interpretation. Maintains the laboratory and procedures according to all State, Federal and accreditation agencies regulatory guidelines. Participates in the validation of new instruments, tests, procedures, and system software. Oversee and executes quality control and calibrates instrumentation and produces clinically accurate patient results.
This is a graveyard shift position, starting out Part-Time then moving to full-time.
Pay scale is based off experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Be a proactive leader and identify opportunities and propose improvements, efficiencies, and operational modification as it relates to the laboratory operations.
- Will performing a wide range of complex laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with a high degree of accuracy.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Ensure compliance with quality control and quality assurance protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of test results and patient information.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures.
- Stay current with advancements in laboratory science and technology.
- Ensures, implement, and supports compliance with all departmental and company policies and procedures including but not limited to Quality and Safety
- Maintains adequate staffing and performs scheduling, planning, and monitoring of workflow based on patient load to meet established goals
- Resolve and troubleshoot all technical problems with the aid of the technical staff and ensures that remedial action is taken whenever a test deviates from the laboratory's performance standards
- Ensure that all patient results are not reported until corrective actions have been taken and the systems are functioning properly
- Engage in sample preparation and running clinical and other diagnostics equipment in a high complexity clinical laboratory environment.
- Ensure that all documentation provided associated with test results, maintenance records, and quality control are detailed, accurate and legible
- Ensure that instruments are running at their optimum performance through routine and preventive maintenance.
- Monitors performance of equipment by implementing QA and QC procedures.
- Monitors trends in service requests and implement corrective actions to improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime of the instruments.
- Supervise the lab team, including mentoring, coaching, training, developing, and building teams. Identify training needs and ensures all training is performed as required
- Perform staff competency assessments and annual staff performance reviews.
- Compose, review, update and revise new and current SOPs.
- Review assay QC steps and troubleshoot QC issues.
- Review monthly and annual instrument maintenance logs.
- Assist with internal and external proficiency testing.
- Perform instrument performance/calibration verification, as needed.
- Assist with the development, optimization, and validation of new assays
- Procures appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize efficiency within established budgetary and quality goals.
- Complete other tasks as needed to support the objectives of the laboratory.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirement:
o Must possess a valid CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist licensure to perform high complexity tests.
o Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science with at least 1 year in high-complexity testing in the specialty or specialties of tests they will be performing; OR
Other Qualification & Requirements:
- Familiarity with CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements.
- Conduct activities in compliance with CLIA and other regulatory guidelines.
- Adheres to laboratory safety practices, including but not limited to OSHA blood-borne pathogens, HIPAA, and hazardous chemicals training and monitoring.
- Identify and report unsafe equipment, conditions, and practices so that they may be corrected prior to an incident.
- Understanding of techniques, instrumentation, and underlying principles.
- Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, and /or board of directors
- Strong PC skills and working knowledge of MS Office.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, reliable, and able to prioritize workload.
