Tropical J’s is Hawai‘i’s premier manufacturer of outdoor fabric structures. We design, build and install commercial-grade awnings and canopies amongst other custom projects. Everything we build is designed, engineered, and produced right here on O‘ahu and we install across all islands.
We’re looking for a curious and competent problem solver to join our production team as Assistant to the Operations Manager. This is a hands on role working directly with our Operations Manager to coordinate daily production, manage project flow, and support fabrication and installation activities. You’ll be at the center of everything — helping turn concepts into reality.
What You’ll Do
- Work side by side with the Operations Manager to organize production schedules and manage installations
- Help prepare project drawings, materials, and documentation for fabrication.
- Coordinate with sewing, welding, and shipping departments to keep jobs moving efficiently.
- Learn to operate and support advanced tools and systems, including:
- OMAX waterjet cutter
- Bambu Labs 3D printer
- Rhino 3D software
- Leica 3D laser measuring systems
- Assist with on-site installations and deliveries to understand the full production process.
- Help with shop maintenance, including general upkeep, troubleshooting, and basic machine
repairs. - Communicate with team members to anticipate needs, solve problems, and keep things on track.

- Comfortable splitting time between the office, shop, and job sites.
- Tech-friendly — comfortable on a co puter an d quick to learn software like monday.com, Excel, and Rhino 3D.
- Naturally curious, with a steady, problem-solving mindset.
- Experience in construction, fabrication, or project coordination is a plus, but initiative and attitude matter most.
