About the Role
The general function of this position is to operate the chemical processes within the assigned area in the base plant in a safe and efficient manner to produce a high-quality product. This role is responsible for ensuring plant operations are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner and in compliance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) policies. This position requires working 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights and weekends. The starting hourly pay for this full-time role is $31.78. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Work 12-hour rotating shifts to include nights and weekends
- Work overtime coverage as required based on plant and shift needs
- Safely operate and monitor chlorination and oxidation processes, including start-up, shutdown, troubleshooting, and emergency response, in compliance with PSM/RMP and Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) requirements
- Read and comprehend Standard Operating Procedures and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams to ensure safe and effective operations
- Understand the process flow, production requirements and operating limits for the area assigned
- Operate, inspect, and maintain process equipment and systems, including chlorinators, oxidation units, baghouses, rotating equipment, refrigeration, and utilities, while performing routine inspections, minor maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure equipment reliability
- Perform material handling and rail operations, including safe offloading of chlorine railcars, operating track mobile equipment, and completing required data entry in BNSF systems
- Perform general housekeeping including sweeping and shoveling
- Complete required training and maintain ongoing certifications and refresher requirements
- Forklift and front-end loader operations
- Attend and participate in HAZMAT certification, First Aid and Fire/Rope rescue team training
- Write notifications and complete work orders in SAP
- Perform data entry and tracking using Microsoft Excel & Khronos MES
- Work in environments where hazardous chemicals (e.g., chlorine, AlCl3) are present, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and use of PPE
- Consistently demonstrates Tronox's core values
- Must be clean-shaven in areas where facial hair would interfere with the proper fit and seal of a respirator. This includes no beards, sideburns, or excessive growth.
- Constantly ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, etc. and moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments
- Occasionally required to operate heavy machinery, power tools, or motor vehicles
- Constantly walking long distances from one worksite to another and working in extreme outdoor weather conditions including hot, cold and rainy conditions.
- Frequently work in environments with regular exposure to titanium dioxide (TiO₂) pigment, which may come into contact with skin, clothing, and PPE.
- Occasionally lifting or moving objects up to 55 or more pounds in all directions
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a Gold or above on the ACT Work Keys Assessment
- 3 years industrial manufacturing experience preferred
- Manufacturing Basic Skills Certification preferred
- Forklift operating experience preferred
- Front end loading experience preferred
- Internal candidates must have a MX or above on most recent evaluation and no active corrective action documentation.
