Job Summary

Position Summary The Supporting Care Specialist provides direct mental health services to students and families in the Trona Joint Unified School District. The role includes individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation with staff and families, and coordination with outside agencies to promote student well-being and academic success. This position also supports required documentation and billing processes under the Capacity Grant. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide individual, group, and family counseling for students referred for emotional, social, or behavioral concerns. Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and document progress in accordance with state and district requirements. Provide crisis intervention and participate in the district’s crisis response team as needed. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents to design interventions that support student success. Serve as a liaison with community mental health providers and agencies. Ensure compliance with confidentiality laws and mandated reporting requirements. Support billing, time documentation, and reporting processes required for services funded under the Capacity Grant. Participate in IEPs, 504 meetings, Student Study Teams, and other collaborative planning sessions. Provide staff and parent training or workshops on mental health, behavior supports, or wellness topics as assigned.

Qualifications Education & Licensure: Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Current California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Experience: Minimum of one year of experience providing counseling/therapy services in school, clinical, or community settings (educational setting preferred). Experience with Medi-Cal or grant billing procedures desirable. Other Requirements: Valid California Driver’s License. Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Bilingual skills desirable. Working Conditions School and office settings with regular interaction with students, families, and staff. Frequent interruptions and the need to manage crisis situations. Moderate to high levels of stress. Travel between school sites and community agencies may be required.
