SUMMARY:

Responsible for operating, inspecting, and maintaining a variety of plant equipment in connection with the continuous operation of the Company’s rendering operations; supervises and coordinates all preventive and corrective maintenance on plant and equipment; ensures and demonstrates that facility or facilities supervised are in compliance with all regulatory agencies through the documentation of plant performance and reporting these performance and compliance levels through monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports; participates in or formulates safety programs and budgets for the plant; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for operating, inspecting, and maintaining a variety of plant equipment in connection with the continuous operation of Triumph’s wastewater treatment plant.
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing wastewater treatment services; identifies resource needs; reviews need with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities; recommends and participates in the implementation of resulting policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the selection of assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures.
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the assigned program budget; submits budget recommendations; monitors expenditures.
  • Maintains records concerning operations and programs; prepares reports on operations and activities.
  • Performs the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit, including ensuring and demonstrating that the facility or facilities supervised are in compliance with all regulatory agencies through the documentation of plant performance and reporting these performance and compliance levels through monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports.
  • Participates in operating systems manually or by remote control and operating mechanical equipment, which regulates the flow and treatment of sewage and sludge.
  • Oversees and participates in starting, stopping, and regulating electric motors, centrifugal and positive displacements pumps, bar screens, grinders, grit collectors, air compressors, chlorinators, washers, grease skimmers, gas burners, rotary screens, conveyors, and related equipment.
  • Oversees and participates in performing routine maintenance duties such as lubricating equipment and changing belts; carries out operating orders in the plant or unit of the plant to which assigned.
  • Oversees and participates in reading meters, gauges, and other control and measuring devices; maintains a shift log of unit operations to include records of meter and gauge readings and reports relative to mechanical repairs and plant operations.
  • Supervises plant operators in performing routine operations and maintenance duties and laboratory tests; prepares performance evaluations; prepares work and maintenance schedules.
  • Responds to emergency call-out situations and performs standby duty for emergency response on weekends and holidays according to a predetermined schedule.
  • Evaluates laboratory and operational plant data for making process control adjustments to keep the effluent water compliant with the waste discharge permit; keep General Supervisor informed of all process control adjustments.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, an engineering degree preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of experience, including two years of lead supervisory and administrative responsibility. A mechanical focus background is preferred. A combination of experience and education will be considered.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Wastewater treatment plant operations and processes.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Basic principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Advanced principles, practices, methods, and procedures for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Advanced methods and techniques of reading and interpreting gauges, recording devices, and related system monitors.
  • Operating principles of plant equipment such as pumps and motors.
  • Tools, equipment, and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant facilities.
  • Emergency maintenance and repair procedures related to wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Advanced methods and techniques of conducting laboratory tests and procedures related to wastewater treatment analysis.
  • Maintenance and operation of equipment commonly found in a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Principles and practices of record keeping and reporting.
  • Mathematical principles.
  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable software applications.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

 

License/Certifications:

Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Certification required in Company provided CPR/First Aid training. Must hold or be willing to be trained to 24-hour Hazardous Technician Hazwhoper level for disaster preparedness and emergency response.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language, such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Must effectively communicate with USDA, production, and management personnel.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations. Demonstrated ability to understand basic statistics for process control.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. SQF Certification preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility.  The employee is required to sit; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak, hear, taste, and smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb ladders and platforms, enter confined spaces and wear all safety equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to cold/hot, and/or humid conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, cold/hot temperatures, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The work environment includes climate extremes found in all areas of plant operations.

 

Incumbents require sufficient mobility to work in a wastewater treatment plant and field environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information. See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

 

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
