Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Field Technician role based in Austin, TX. The Field Technician will install, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling for data, voice, and fiber systems in commercial environments, including new construction and existing facilities. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints and floor plans, pulling and routing cable through conduit, ceilings, walls, and underground pathways, and properly mounting and dressing cable in telecom rooms and equipment racks. The role involves using hand and power tools safely, performing basic troubleshooting and repairs, documenting work performed, and communicating job progress and issues with supervisors and project managers. Qualifications
- Experience with low-voltage cabling, including installation, termination, and testing of data, voice, and fiber optic cabling.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and cabling plans.
- Proficiency with basic hand and power tools commonly used in cabling and construction environments.
- Understanding of cabling standards, labeling practices, and basic network hardware (patch panels, jacks, racks).
- Commitment to safety practices, including use of PPE, ladder safety, and compliance with job site safety rules.
- Capability to work on lifts, ladders, and in confined spaces, and to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to various job sites in and around Austin, TX.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in low-voltage, telecommunications, or electrical trades is preferred.
