Essential Function
The Dean will oversee and coordinate the Early College programming offered at the college and in the high schools. Through leadership and collaboration, the Dean will direct instructional programs and supervise operations and planning to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. The Dean will develop and implement matriculation efforts supporting students’ early access to college courses. The position will be responsible for working closely with the College’s academic deans and faculty and the high school district’s superintendents, school principals, faculty, and counselors to achieve their departmental missions and objectives.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in education, administration, or related field, (doctorate preferred).
Experience: Must have three years in higher education as a college administrator, program chair, or related management experience. Experience in curriculum, and innovative program development and assessment preferred.
Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of early college, dual credit, dual enrollment, dual degree practices, and state legislative guidelines. Understanding of program planning and development in a community college setting and broad knowledge of secondary school systems.
Skills: High degree of professionalism and service orientation with respect to the quality of work and interactions with others. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills, able to set priorities, problem-solve, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively and interact with personnel at all levels and work within a diverse environment being sensitive to issues of equity and inclusion.
Responsibilities
1. Oversee all aspects of early college offerings at the college and in the high schools, providing strategic direction.
2. Work with academic deans to ensure instructors are qualified, and clear pathways are aligned for high school students to access relevant and affordable education and job skills.
3. Facilitate the growth, development, and promotion of early college programs and facilitates dual credit matriculation to the college.
4. Responsible for program review, state audit, and compliance components of du al credit programs.
5. Oversee sponsored dual credit in high schools to ensure rigor is maintained across the curriculum, including outcomes/assessment, syllabi alignment, and instructor cooperation.
6. Identify and address programmatic barriers and opportunities at both the college and high schools.
7. Coordinate efforts for admission, orientation, academic support services, and student engagement with the staff in Enrollment Management and Student Services division.
8. Identify, analyze, and apply research findings and best practices to promote program improvement and growth.
9. Work with the Department of Research and Institutional Effectiveness to analyze and report enrollment and retention data.
10. Collaborate with the deans in Academic Affairs to provide dual credit offerings in response to student and high school needs.
11. Attend and participate in meetings with high schools and universities and local community partners to represent the Early College department and initiatives.
12. Develop budget recommendations, and manage the approved budget and expenditures.
13. Manage and supervise the development, evaluation, and retention of staff maintaining effective working relationships.
14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
