Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related liberal arts or social sciences discipline is required. Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
1. Provides academic advising focused on helping new, continuing, and returning students explore their career options, create educational/degree plans, course selection; tracks student progress and reports on activities as needed.
1. Provides academic advising focused on helping new, continuing, and returning students explore their career options, create educational/degree plans, course selection; tracks student progress and reports on activities as needed.
2. Works closely with and supports the success of students through outreach, appointments, workshops, and other activities.
3. Assists new students with the onboarding process including New Student Orientation (NSO), introduction to the student portal, and registration.
4. Works closely with and supports the success of students through outreach, appointments, workshops, and other activities.
5. Collaborates with faculty and staff in college departments to meet objectives and activities that foster student success.
6. Enforces registration policies and student course placements as they relate to prerequisites and placement and keeps accurate records and documentation.
7. Offers counsel to faculty and staff on matters of course selection sequences, registration processes, and the implementation of student placement measures.
8. Assists in training new academic advisors with department and college policies and procedures.
Skills:
1. Ability to work with a diverse student population
2. Ability to utilize technology in advising students
3. Knowledge of federal and state guidelines related to ADA compliance
4. Ability to develop, facilitate, and assess presentations and events
5. Strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong student service orientation required. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
Experience:
1. Experience in an educational environment
2. Experience in creating and conducting workshops regarding college requirements and services
3. Experience in creating academic plans preferred
4. Community college experience preferred
5. One to two years’ experience in educational support programming, advisement, or counseling. Experience with low income, first generation and disabled students in a higher education setting preferred.
