POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs clerical (non-technical) duties to assist the technical staff in the processing of claims for our clients.

This position requires interaction with claimants and attorneys on the phone, and with management, claims examiners, claims supervisors, and other TRISTAR staff; therefore, consistently working core hours in the Eastern Time Zone is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handles incoming and outgoing mail to include, including sorting, stamping, indexing, and distributing.
  • Monitors of new claims arising in the new loss box, including review, distribution, and transfer of emailed correspondence
  • Filing correspondence electronically into files.
  • Makes payments as instructed by the technician. Follow for the W9 information to release checks; process voids/reissues
  • Answers /routes telephone calls for technicians. Initiate calls as directed by technicians to secure follow-up information (i.e., bills)
  • May have some involvement with directing temp employees or new employees, or assisting in the interviewing process with a supervisor

EQUIPMENT OPERATED/USED: Computer, telephone, and other office equipment.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR CLOTHING: Appropriate business casual office attire as outlined in the TRISTAR employee handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload
  • Analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information to claimants and clients
  • Ability to interact with people at all levels in the business environment
  • Ability to act independently
  • Proficient in Word and Excel (preferred).

Experience:

  • Two to three years of general office experience. One year of claims industry experience is preferred but not required

a. Physical activity required to perform the job:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

  • Visual requirements necessary to perform the job:

Far vision: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.

Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

Pushing: Using upper extremities top press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to extent force in order to drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
