A downtown Chicago law firm is seeking a reliable, Illinois-licensed attorney to serve as a per diem hearing attorney for appearances before the Department of Administrative Hearings in connection with municipal debt collection matters. This role is well-suited for an attorney seeking consistent, part-time appearance work with a predictable schedule and straightforward responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities
- Appear at scheduled status call hearings before the Department of Administrative Hearings. These hearings take place every other Saturday at 9:30 AM at 400 W. Superior St., Chicago IL 60654 and require approximately 1.25-1.5 hours of total appearance time. Occasional conflicts are acceptable, but the attorney must be able to attend at least 80% of scheduled hearings.
- Represent client in municipal debt collection matters in a professional and effective manner
- Take detailed notes regarding appearances
- Either retrieve hearing files from the firm's Loop office, or print hearing files at home (the firm will provide, and/or reimburse costs for, printing supplies)
- Correspond with the firm regarding any relevant follow-up to the firm after each appearance
Qualifications
- Active Illinois law license required
- Strong professionalism, punctuality, and dependability
- Ability to work independently and handle hearings with minimal supervision
- Prior hearing or administrative appearance experience preferred
- Experience with municipal debt collection, administrative law, or similar proceedings is a plus
Compensation
- $500 flat fee per hearing
- This flat fee includes time spent retrieving/printing hearing files and occasional out-of-court correspondence with firm regarding proceedings.
