Job Description This role is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of all activities related to the construction of assigned X-energy/TRISO-X nuclear and non-nuclear projects ranging in size/complexity, from $50M to $4B in total capital cost. This position plays an integral role in the formulation and adherence to construction policies for assigned projects. In addition, this position is responsible for the overall administration and technical direction, coordination, and direct line responsibilities for field construction, including maintaining and ensuring safety training and compliance and taking the necessary steps to stop work if the site or activities appear to be unsafe. Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities Manages and coordinates construction projects from conception to completion as assigned. The breadth and types of projects includes but is not limited to: nuclear operator and maintenance training facilities, mechanical/electrical/hydraulic testing facilities, major system integration facilities, nuclear fuel handling/storage facilities, and nuclear power plants. Support project development teams (constructors, technical authorities, owners, operators, other stakeholders) in crafting agreements to plan and execute time nuclear power projects. Provides oversight of in-house and contractor work, including facility civil construction and systems installations, such as power, I&C, HVAC, cooling water, wastewater handling, compressed/process gas storage and delivery. Reviews project construction estimates and schedules for understanding, clarity, appropriateness, and acceptability. Reviews specifications, drawings, work packages, and other “Issue for Construction” documentation with Engineering, Quality, construction, etc., for constructability issues, clarity, and completeness. Participates in material review boards, non-conformance reporting, and test failure reviews; supports the resolution of problems involving material deliveries, specification compliance, and contract/subcontract administration. Coordinates with internal stakeholders and other functional departments and personnel in establishing and maintaining priorities to ensure the construction project success. Identifies issues and reports to leadership to ensure project success. Participates in project planning of assigned construction activities, deliverables, and milestones and commensurate resources necessary to achieve those deliverables. Reviews and approves project plans and schedules as assigned. Monitors expenses and tracks material quantities - both received and installed. Assess and evaluate earn value measurement data, determine the right metrics to monitor construction progress Monitors construction personnel performance, quality, safety, and technical adequacy. Ensures that the appropriate field instructions, work packages, and procedures are in place and being adhered to. Develops, collates, and provides periodic reports regarding construction operations to project and executive leadership. Ensures that appropriate project training programs are being implemented. Presents project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to internal and external stakeholders as assigned. Promotes a culture of safety. Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication. Perform other duties as necessary. Job Profile Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Construction Management. Typically, fifteen plus years of relevant work experience in construction project management. Five years’ experience leading construction teams in the build, test, and commissioning of complex hardware assembly, integration, and/or test facilities. Five years’ experience on a U.S., Canadian, or UK nuclear construction site in a management or leadership role. Detailed knowledge of construction contract structures, including knowledge and/or experience negotiating terms, incentives, distribution of liabilities and other project controls. Knowledgeable in the application and use of project management tools to control, measure, and monitor construction work. Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience in managing subcontracted construction scope / construction projects of greater than $500M Total Project Cost and demonstrated experience in: 1) Design and construction of chemical processing and/or manufacturing facilities (or comparable complex facility types). 2) Construction of highly regulated production facilities (state or federal) while overseeing risk management and ensuring regulatory compliance. 3) Leading and building multidisciplinary teams with a strong focus on mentoring and cultivating a culture of completion.
