Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Diesel Automotive Service Writer to join our busy automotive service team. In this role, you will serve as the vital link between customers and our skilled technicians, ensuring clear communication of vehicle issues, accurate documentation of repairs, and efficient workflow management. Your energetic approach will help drive customer satisfaction and maximize service opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical understanding of diesel engines and automotive systems, along with excellent customer service skills. Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and listen carefully to their vehicle concerns to accurately document issues using estimating software.
- Communicate effectively with technicians regarding diagnosis findings, repair recommendations, and estimated timeframes.
- Prepare detailed repair orders and estimates for services such as oil changes, brake repairs, transmissions, suspension work, tire services, shocks & struts, air brakes, alignments, and more.
- Upsell additional services or repairs by identifying customer needs while maintaining transparency and integrity.
- Manage customer communication throughout the repair process, providing updates and explaining technical information clearly.
- Utilize computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools to ensure precise assessments for collision repairs or mechanical diagnostics.
- Assist in promoting services by leveraging auto service management skills and automotive repair knowledge to enhance sales opportunities.
- Maintain organized records of all service activities, estimates, and client interactions for seamless workflow continuity.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Service Writer or in a similar automotive service role within a dealership or repair shop environment.
- Strong mechanic background with hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics, mechanical repairs, and vehicle maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with estimating software platforms used in auto repair shops for accurate job costing and invoicing.
- Knowledge of automotive systems including transmissions, suspension components, brakes, air brakes, alignments, tires, shocks & struts is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers with varying levels of automotive knowledge.
- Experience in upselling services while maintaining high standards of customer service and integrity.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to drive company vehicles as needed.
