Middle School Girls Basketball Coach

Position Summary

The Tripoli Community School District is seeking a dependable and student-centered Middle School Girls Basketball Coach to provide leadership, instruction, supervision, and support to student-athletes. The coach will promote skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and dedication while providing a safe and positive athletic environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, coaching strategies, techniques, and instruction.

• Previous coaching or athletic experience preferred.

• Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively with middle school students.

• Ability to promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, control, and dedication.

• Ability to follow district policies, athletic procedures, and applicable state requirements.

• Ability to maintain required certifications and state qualifications.

• Ability to demonstrate professional and ethical behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in a particular sport using appropriate coaching strategies and techniques that can be used to improve the athlete and the activity.

• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. Provides standards and procedures in writing to the students.

• Transmits to his/her athletes (and the entire student body) the understanding of sportsmanship, control, and dedication by example.

• Possesses professional skills and knowledge to provide leadership and cooperation in the areas of methods, techniques, strategies, and instruction.

• Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.

• Stays up to date with certifications and state qualifications.

• Works closely with the Activities Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.

• Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.

• Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.

• Enforces performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the assigned sport.

• Arranges transportation as needed in a timely manner.

• Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, end-of-year report, and other paperwork as required.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout practices and athletic activities.

• Ability to supervise and interact with student-athletes in gymnasiums, athletic facilities, and other school settings.

• Ability to demonstrate and participate in basketball activities as appropriate.

• Ability to respond appropriately to student safety and emergency needs.

• Ability to lift, carry, or move equipment and supplies as necessary.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in gymnasiums, athletic facilities, school buildings, and other areas where basketball practices and contests are conducted. The coach will regularly interact with student-athletes, families, school staff, other coaches, and officials. The position requires attendance at scheduled practices, contests, and other athletic activities during the basketball season.

Terms of Employment

Coaching assignments, work schedules, compensation, and other terms of employment are established by the Tripoli Community School District Board of Education and applicable district policies and agreements. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and district requirements, including any required certifications, qualifications, and trainings.
