The Primary Therapist is responsible for conducting individual and group clinical work at a direct client care level and works collaboratively with the team to ensure that each client’s treatment goals are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Screens and conducts diagnostic and biopsychosocial assessments of clients on entry.
- Develops an individualized treatment plan for each client based on their screening, assessment, and goals.
- Conducts educational and experiential groups pertaining to mental health, co-occurring disorders, and substance abuse based on program curriculum.
- Carries an individual caseload and meets with each client once per week, as outlined by state guidelines.
- Completes all individual and group notes in a timely manner.
- Utilizes therapeutic interventions supportive of each client recovery.
- Provides education to clients, families, coworkers, and community healthcare providers on interventions and community resources.
- Organizes a collaborative discharge plan for each client’s continuing care plan.
- Coordinates other treatment related services with the team when appropriate.
- Participates in weekly staff meetings, and daily project management meetings.
- Facilitates collaborative discharge planning and completes accompanied documentation.
- Identifies and deescalates mental health crisis scenarios, reports to the appropriate channels, and completes accompanied documentation.
- Observes the facility’s Policy & Procedure Manual.
- Adheres to the Code of Ethics as outlined by licensure.
- Completes additional duties as needed by the organization.

- Master's degree (M. A.) or higher in Mental Health or related field. Clear and current Tennessee Board Licensure as LPC, LMFT or LCSW; or LCDC. LMSW under supervision toward LCSW is acceptable.
- Three (3) years minimum experience facilitating the delivery of mental health services for adults.
- Experience in leadership with Substance Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation models are preferred.
- Experience in group implementation and development in a mental health/substance use setting is required
- Experience with Sunwave EMR is preferred.
