Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Assistant Cook (Sous Chef) to join our team. We are a faith-based camp that serves youth and adults from the parishes of the St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese, as well as Superior and surrounding dioceses. We feel strongly that good food can positively affect the camper experience for both kids and adults. The role of Assistant Cook (Sous Chef) play a crucial role in the operation of the camp and retreat center assisting with kitchen operations, and food preparation while ensuring the highest standards of food quality, nutrition, and safety. The ideal candidates will have experience in the food industry, particularly in camp retreat or institutional environment and communicate well with custmers.
Duties
- Assist the lead chef in food preparation and cooking, ensuring consistency and quality across all dishes.
- Assist with daily kitchen operations, including inventory management, food handling, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Understand best practices in food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, adhering to strict hygiene standards.
- Assist in catering events to other buildings as needed, providing exceptional service.
Experience
- Proven experience in a culinary role within the food industry.
- familiar with dietary needs or as a dietary aide is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated skills in meal preparation and catering services.
- Proficiency in food handling practices and knowledge of food safety regulations.
- Excellent knife skills and experience with various cooking techniques.
- Must be enthusiastic, hard-working, organized, and able to work independently as well as under supervision of the Lead Chef and/or General Manager
