Counselor

Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) is a learning-focused institution offering quality academic, workforce, and community service programs to meet the educational needs of its students and surrounding communities. Located in Northeastern Texas, TVCC serves Henderson, Anderson, Kaufman, Rains, and Van Zandt counties, with a combined population of 250,000 residents. The college enrolls approximately 8,000 students annually in workforce training and academic transfer programs. TVCC operates campuses in Athens, Terrell, Palestine, Kaufman, and within three Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison units.

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Counselor located at the Athens, TX campus. The Counselor will provide academic advising, career guidance, and personal counseling services to support student success. Responsibilities include aiding students in defining educational and career goals, assisting with course selection and degree planning, conducting workshops, and maintaining accurate records of counseling sessions. The Counselor will also collaborate with faculty and staff to create supportive academic environments and contribute to retention efforts.

• Strong skills in academic advising, career guidance, and personal counseling
• Proficiency in developing degree plans, assisting with course selection, and providing guidance on educational and career pathways
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff
• Insightful problem-solving and time-management skills for managing student needs and maintaining session records
• Experience with student retention initiatives and supporting academic success is a plus
• Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field required
• Licensure or certification in counseling or a related area is beneficial
• Familiarity with community college environments and diverse student populations is preferred
