About the Trinity River Crew
The Trinity River Crew is one of Dallas’ most celebrated youth conservation and leadership programs—an immersive, paid summer experience for high‑potential high school students from communities along the Trinity River. Through hands‑on conservation projects, environmental education, and professional development, Crew members build confidence, skills, and a deep connection to the natural spaces in their own city. The program is a cornerstone of the Conservancy’s commitment to equity, access, and the next generation of environmental stewards.
Position Overview
The Youth Engagement Lead is a dynamic, mission‑driven seasonal role responsible for guiding, inspiring, and supporting the Trinity River Crew throughout their summer internship experience. Working closely with the Program Sr. Leader, Greenspace Dallas, and Trinity Park Conservancy partners, this leader shapes the day‑to‑day experience of Crew members—facilitating learning, leading conservation projects, and creating a safe, supportive, and joyful environment for youth to thrive.
This is an ideal role for someone who loves the outdoors, believes in the power of young people, and wants to play a visible part in a transformative project for Dallas.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Curriculum Support
- Support the planning and execution of environmental education lessons, field activities, and conservation projects
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Program Coordinator to deliver a structured, high‑quality service-learning program
- Maintain accurate records, attendance, project data, and evaluation materials
- Assist with end‑of‑season assessments and program reporting
Schedule & Work Environment
- Seasonal term: May –September
- Core Crew supervision: June 16th – July 31st
- Tuesday–Friday: 7:00 AM–1:00 PM
- Additional planning, training, and weekend volunteer events as needed
- Significant outdoor work in summer conditions along the Trinity River corridor
Preferred Background & Skills
- Currently enrolled in or have completed a degree in Environmental Studies, Education, Biology, Ecology, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field
- Experience leading youth programs, teaching, mentoring, or facilitating group activities
- Strong relationship‑building, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- Passion for conservation, youth development, and the mission of Trinity Park Conservancy
Compensation
This is an hourly, seasonal position. Pay range $20-$22 per hour.
Employment is contingent upon a background check.
