Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team for the Day Shift in our Medical/Surgical unit. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive patient care, utilizing their expertise in acute and chronic care settings, and demonstrate proficiency with various EMR/EHR systems. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, delivering high-quality nursing services across diverse patient populations, including those requiring complex medical interventions such as IV infusions, catheterizations, and post-operative care. Experience with specialized areas such as ICU, telemetry, or step-down units is highly valued. The RN will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and adherence to healthcare standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations.
- Administer medications and injections accurately while following aseptic techniques and medication protocols.
- Manage airway care, ventilator support, and tube feeding for critically ill patients.
- Perform invasive procedures such as IV insertions, catheterizations (including Foley and central lines), suturing, and dressing changes.
- Document all patient interactions and interventions accurately within EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
- Monitor patients’ responses to treatments and adjust care plans accordingly; provide education on disease management and health coaching.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists in areas such as cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, trauma medicine (Level I & II Trauma Center experience), neonatal intensive care (NICU), PICU, or post-acute care settings.
- Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed; maintain sterile processing standards during procedures.
- Assist with discharge planning and coordinate follow-up care for complex cases involving chronic conditions or disabilities.
- Comply with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality; maintain accurate medical records and documentation of all clinical activities.
Skills
- Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
- Proficiency in advanced nursing procedures including IV infusion/insertion, phlebotomy/venipuncture, sterile dressing changes, ostomy care, gastrostomy management, and wound suturing.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, diagnostic evaluation techniques (sonography, medical imaging), and CPT/ICD coding for accurate documentation.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments across various specialties including critical care (ICU experience), emergency medicine (ER experience), cardiology (cardiac catheterization), orthopedics (OR experience), behavioral health (dementia & Alzheimer's care), geriatrics (long-term & memory care), neonatal & pediatric care (neonatal ventilator management).
- Skilled in infection control practices; experienced in handling infectious diseases and working within strict safety protocols.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams; compassionate approach to working with patients of all ages including children with developmental disabilities or special needs.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational health cases; familiarity with post-surgical recovery processes and discharge planning.
