Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team for the Day Shift in our Medical/Surgical unit. The LPN will play a vital role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients across various medical settings, including acute care, geriatrics, and post-operative recovery. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth is highly desirable.
Duties
- Perform patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and initial intake evaluations
- Administer medications and injections following physician orders while adhering to HIPAA and infection control protocols
- Assist with invasive procedures such as IV insertions, catheterization, and specimen collection/processing
- Monitor patients' physiological status using physiology knowledge and diagnostic evaluation techniques
- Manage airway care, ventilator support, and tube feeding as needed for critical or post-operative patients
- Document all patient interactions accurately in medical records using EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner
- Provide wound care, suture management, and sterile processing procedures
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, physical therapists, and case managers to coordinate discharge planning and post-acute care
- Support patients with dementia or Alzheimer's care, behavioral health needs, and those requiring memory or hospice care
- Ensure infection control standards are maintained throughout all patient interactions and procedures
Skills
- Proven experience with medical-surgical nursing, ICU, emergency medicine, or trauma center environments (Level I & II Trauma Center experience preferred)
- Proficiency in ICD-9/ICD-10 coding and medical documentation practices
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology
- Skilled in patient assessment techniques including vital signs monitoring and physical examinations
- Experience administering injections, phlebotomy, venipuncture, catheter care, and sterile technique
- Ability to operate advanced medical equipment such as ventilators and cardiac catheters
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation
- Excellent communication skills for working with diverse populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), and individuals with disabilities or developmental delays
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety
- Capable of working independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
