Position Title: Worship Director
Position Summary
The Worship Director leads all worship experiences at Trinity Delray Lutheran Church and School. This role exists to cultivate Christ-centered, inviting, and spiritually formative worship that reflects the gospel and supports Trinity’s mission and vision. Working across church and school ministries, the Worship Director partners with staff, volunteers, and families to foster a culture of joyful worship, musical excellence, and meaningful engagement.

Reporting Structure
The Worship Director is accountable to the congregation through the Executive Director. This position is part of the Ministry Staff team and collaborates regularly with church and school leadership to support a unified ministry approach.
General Responsibilities
- Champion the mission, vision, and values of Trinity Delray.
- Maintain regular worship attendance and actively participate as a member of the church.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff & Volunteer Handbook and the Human Resource Manual.
- Demonstrate ongoing spiritual growth through worship, Bible study, and personal devotion.
- Maintain an annual professional development plan and meet annually with the Executive Director to review progress.
- Represent Trinity in the broader community with professionalism, humility, and integrity.
- Maintain appropriate availability and responsiveness, including during off-site events and rehearsals.
Specialized Responsibilities
Worship Leadership
- Lead the planning and execution of worship services that are Christ-centered, engaging, and inviting to all ages and backgrounds.
- Lead the weekly worship planning meeting with the worship team to coordinate themes, music selection, service flow, and transitions.
- Collaborate with the worship team to align liturgical and contemporary elements with Trinity’s Lutheran identity and theological heritage.
- Serve as the primary worship leader and equip others to lead through music, prayer, scripture, and creative elements.
- Ensure worship environments are prepared and optimized, including setup and teardown.
School Chapel
- Plan and lead weekly school chapel services in coordination with school and ministry staff.
- Recruit and prepare students, and guest speakers to participate in chapel worship teams.
Volunteer & Team Development
- Recruit, equip, and schedule volunteers involved in worship, including musicians, vocalists, readers, tech, greeters, and ushers.
- Lead regular rehearsals and provide musical and spiritual guidance to teams.
- Encourage spiritual growth and community among worship volunteers.
- Provide mentorship and feedback to develop talent and leadership within the congregation.
Creative Planning & Production
- Utilize appropriate software and tools to plan, schedule, and communicate worship logistics.
- Create worship presentations and ensure quality of sound, visuals, and livestream.
- Stay informed on trends in worship and church production that align with Trinity’s mission.
- Balance innovation with faithfulness to Lutheran doctrine and the unique identity of Trinity.
Administration & Coordination
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and ministry staff in annual ministry planning.
- Develop and manage the worship and music budget.
- Maintain inventory of instruments, equipment, and worship resources.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to planning for services, special events, and cross-ministry initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in music, worship arts, theology, education, or a related field
- Prior experience leading worship in a Lutheran or other Christian church setting
- Proficiency in at least one primary instrument (e.g., piano or guitar) and strong vocal ability
- Familiarity with Lutheran liturgy and doctrine, with a heart for both traditional and contemporary worship
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Skilled in worship planning, volunteer development, and team leadership
- Experience with worship technology, including presentation software, sound systems, and livestream platforms
- Ability to mentor musicians, volunteers, and students in both musical and spiritual growth
- Creative mindset, flexible spirit, and commitment to collaborative ministry
Minimum Qualifications
- Active member in good standing of Trinity Delray Lutheran Church (or willingness to become one)
- Demonstrates a consistent Christian lifestyle and commitment to congregational life and mission
- Alignment with the theology and worship practices of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
- Proficient in vocal and instrumental worship leadership
- Ability to lead both traditional and contemporary worship settings
- Competent in basic music theory and vocal instruction
- Strong interpersonal skills and a heart for ministry with all ages
- Ability to use worship planning tools, sound and media systems, and standard office and communication software
- Physically able to lead worship, conduct rehearsals, and engage actively in school music instruction
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, lead, and sing for extended periods during worship services, rehearsals, and classes
- Comfortable working around children in classroom, chapel, and performance settings
- Capable of moving music equipment, instruments, or classroom materials weighing up to 40 lbs
- Physically able to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach during setup or instruction as needed
- Will be required to work in person on the church and school campus, including occasional evenings or weekends for worship services, rehearsals, or special events
- Able to climb stairs, use step stools, and adjust classroom or worship equipment as needed
