JOB DESCRIPTION

Trinity Lutheran Early Childhood Center is looking for a part-time Great Start Readiness Assistant Teacher, Monday-Friday. The Assistant Teacher provides assistance to the GSRP Lead Teacher for the comprehensive planning, assessment, and instruction of four-year-old children, ensuring that each child's individual needs are met in alignment with the requirements of the GSRP grant.

Responsibilities:

  • Support GSRP students in all aspects of their school experience.
  • Assist the GSRP Lead Teacher in adapting lessons and instructional materials to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Maintain and update classroom records, including attendance, behavior documentation, anecdotal records, and lunch counts, as requested by the GSRP Lead Teacher.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding student and family records and information.
  • Participate in planning meetings as needed.
  • Attend professional development training, in-service sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Supervise and support students during field trips.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, staff, administration, and the community.
  • Attend home visits and parent-teacher conferences alongside the GSRP Lead Teacher.
  • Implement recreational and educational activities as directed.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in setting and achieving program quality improvement goals and other program data.
  • Adhere to and enforce the policies and procedures of Trinity Lutheran School and Early Childhood Center, the State of Michigan Child Care Licensing requirements, and the Great Start to Readiness Program grant.
  • Ensure compliance with classroom licensing requirements by completing daily and weekly housekeeping tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Dependable, reliable, and protective of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Assist with maintaining records of student progress.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the GSRP Lead Teacher or Trinity ECC Program Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • A CDA or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood, Preschool Education, or Child Development Education.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a preschool classroom.
  • Ability to comply with the State of Michigan Child Care Licensing requirements.
  • Strong collaborative skills and work effectively within a team setting.
  • Complete and maintain 24.0 hours of professional development training per calendar year.
  • Acquire and maintain certification in infant, child, and adult CPR.
  • Acquire and maintain first aid and blood-borne pathogen certifications.
  • Pass Criminal History Clearance and fingerprinting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to climb stairs and playground equipment as necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 40 pounds, including children and classroom equipment.
  • Frequently sitting on the floor or in child-sized furniture is required.
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining equipment and the facility as children transition throughout the building.
  • Assist children with toileting and other self-care tasks as needed.
  • Follow health and safety protocols when interacting with children who are ill or contagious, ensuring the well-being of all children, parents, staff, and oneself.
  • Always adhere to universal precautions to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.17 - $18.49 per hour
