Position Summary
The Worship Director directs, leads, and facilitates diverse expressions of worship, ensuring that all feel welcomed to share their unique spiritual and musical gifts. This role serves as the primary pianist supporting the congregation's worship life while leading and developing our volunteer music teams.
This is a part time position for 20 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Musical Leadership & Coordination
- Lead Worship: Direct all Sunday worship services and special seasonal services (Lent, Christmas, etc.).
- Direct Teams: Lead and develop music groups, including the New Creation Choir, the praise team band, and future musical teams.
- Schedule & Recruit: Coordinate rehearsal schedules, recruit volunteers, and hire outside musicians within budget parameters.
- Ensure Coverage: Secure qualified substitute musicians for worship services when absent.
Music Selection & Preparation
- Plan Worship: Create year-round, seasonal, and weekly worship plans in collaboration with the Pastor and worship staff.
- Select Music: Source and purchase music aligned with the weekly Scripture lessons, Gospel readings, or special themes.
- Lead Instrumentation: Serve as the primary pianist/musician for the congregation while staying abreast of modern and contemporary worship music styles.
Administration & Church Life
- Operations: Maintain the church music library, handle copyrights, and oversee the maintenance of musical instruments and equipment.
- Communications: Attend regular staff meetings, communicate actively with volunteers, and proofread/approve the weekly bulletin and PowerPoint slides.
- Budgeting: Prepare and submit annual budget requests.
- Special Events: Collaborate on special events, concerts (e.g., multi-group Christmas concerts), and play or arrange substitutes for weddings and funerals.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional church work experience.
- Musical Expertise: Highly skilled pianist with proven effectiveness in musical direction, vocal leadership, and conducting.
- Stylistic Range: Strong background in a variety of church music styles, with a specific interest and excellence in contemporary worship.
- Team Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate positively, work effectively with volunteers, and be a collaborative staff partner.
- Leadership Traits: Strong organizational skills, willingness to take risks/try new approaches, good judgment, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust working hours to accommodate seasonal workloads.
Alternate Openings: Please note that this position is one of 3 variations of this position. We are willing to split into the Traditional Music Worship Director or Contemporary Music Worship Director for the right candidates.
