Position Summary
Trinity Lutheran Children's Center is seeking a passionate, energetic, and hands-on Assistant Director to join our leadership team. We are looking for someone who enjoys working alongside teachers in the classroom, helping children learn through creative activities, and mentoring staff to become the best educators they can be. This position is ideal for someone who leads by example—not from behind a desk. The Assistant Director will spend time in classrooms every day, supporting teachers, strengthening curriculum, building relationships with families, and ensuring the center maintains the highest standards of care and education. The Assistant Director must also be capable of serving as Acting Director whenever necessary and should be prepared to assume leadership responsibilities if the Director is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the daily operation and management of the childcare center.
- Serve as Acting Director in the Director's absence.
- Ensure compliance with all Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards and center policies.
- Support teachers by spending time in classrooms every day.
- Coach, mentor, and encourage teachers through regular observations and constructive feedback.
- Assist teachers with classroom management and behavior guidance.
- Lead curriculum implementation throughout the center.
- Assist teachers in developing weekly lesson plans that are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with developmental milestones.
- Develop creative crafts, sensory activities, and hands-on learning experiences that support children's growth and development.
- Monitor classroom curriculum to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with center expectations.
- Organize seasonal events, family activities, and educational enrichment programs.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
- Help create staff schedules and provide classroom coverage as needed.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Assist with parent tours and enrollment.
- Maintain organized, safe, welcoming, and engaging classrooms.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment.
- Perform additional leadership responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a licensed child-care center and experience in a leadership role. or equivalent early childhood education leadership experience.
- Must meet or be eligible to meet Texas Child Care Licensing Director qualifications for a licensed childcare center.
- Knowledge of Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards preferred.
- Strong understanding of early childhood education, child development, and curriculum planning.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or supervising teachers preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain prior to hire).
