Outpatient Coder, Medical Records

JOB SUMMARY

• Performs coding and abstracting duties of outpatient records within Medical Records Department.  This would include ED/Express Care records, Same Day Surgery Records, Observation records and ancillary charts.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education

  • High School education.

  • Graduate of medical records program with either a credential of CCS/RHIT preferred or eligible to sit for credentialing exam. Courses in Medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology and Pathophysiology.

• Training and Experience

  • Previous medical records coding in an acute care setting preferred. Must be familiar with medical records documentation.  Data entry ability. Pass coding test with 85% accuracy.
