Description

Position Purpose:

At Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, the Nurse Senior – Educator, also known as the Nursing Professional Development Specialist, advances nursing excellence through evidence‑based education and professional development. This role empowers nurses to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care by fostering lifelong learning and supporting clinical competency across inpatient Behavioral Health service lines. The NPDS promotes a culture of safety, therapeutic engagement, trauma‑informed care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

What You Will Do

  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs that support clinical competency, onboarding, and continuing education for Behavioral Health nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to assess learning needs and develop targeted strategies that strengthen Behavioral Health clinical practice.
  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource, guiding nurses in evidence‑based practice, trauma-informed approaches, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to integrate best practices and regulatory standards—including those related to psychiatric care, seclusion/restraint reduction, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention—into nursing education and daily workflows.

Required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Connecticut RN license.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a strong preference; near requirement. BSN candidates will only be considered if they are actively pursuing an MSN or higher degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in Behavioral Health inpatient specialty/service lines. This will include, but is not limited to, patient populations surrounding: Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Psychiatric and/or Substance Abuse Disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting clinical competency or professional development in Behavioral Health care environments.

Preferred

  • Experience in staff education or professional development (strong preference; nearly required).
  • Familiarity with APNA (American Psychiatric Nurses Association) and PMHN (Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing) standards and practices.
  • Ability to design and conduct simulation-based training, particularly for psychiatric emergencies, de‑escalation, and crisis response.
  • Current BLS certification and advanced specialty certifications (e.g., PMH‑BC, CPI, ACLS). Certification support will be offered post‑hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective nursing education programs.

Position Highlights

  • Full-Time: 40 hours/week
  • This is a salaried position with a range of: $83,304 to $133,328
