Description:

Assisting Pharmacist in preparation of medications for patients within an inpatient (acute care; hospital) setting. Functions include preparing, affixing labels, and delivering medications for inpatient floors and procedural spaces. Stocking automated medication dispensing cabinets, crash carts, and floor stock medication items and operating technology used for drug dispensing. Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment . Other functions or duties as assigned, and in accordance with, respective State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.

Working Hours: Rotating before first and second shift (0600-1430, 1400-2230), every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Essential Functions – Inpatient Pharmacy Technician

  • Prepare, package, and label medications for inpatient use, including oral, injectable, and IV medications
  • Accurately fill medication orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile preparations in accordance with USP standards and hospital policies
  • Maintain and restock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and medication storage areas
  • Deliver medications to nursing units and ensure timely availability for patient care
  • Assist in medication inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating stock
  • Perform controlled substance handling tasks, including documentation, inventory counts, and discrepancy resolution
  • Operate pharmacy information systems to process orders, track medications, and update patient profiles
  • Support medication reconciliation processes as directed
  • Maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements
  • Ensure proper storage conditions, including monitoring refrigeration and environmental controls
  • Assist with crash cart, code tray, and emergency medication supply preparation and exchange
  • Adhere to aseptic technique and infection control procedures in all compounding and handling activities
  • Communicate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare staff regarding medication needs and issues
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify and report medication errors, safety concerns, or discrepancies
  • Maintain pharmacy cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety standards
  • Follow all federal, state, and institutional regulations, including HIPAA compliance
  • Participate in training and orientation of new pharmacy staff as applicable
