• Position Title: Code Blue Intake Specialist/Safety Facilitator
• Congregation: Trinity Church, Asbury Park, New Jersey
• Job Type: Part-time position; Fixed-Term (Approximately November - April)
• Time Commitment: Maximum of 40 hours per week; Variable overnight shifts, including weekends; available shifts are 6:30 PM – 12:30 AM, 12:30 AM – 7:00 AM, and 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (full overnight shift)
• Proposed Compensation Package: $23 per hour. Eligible for cost-of-living adjustments.

Trinity Church is a Monmouth County Code Blue Warming Center. Monmouth County calls a Code Blue emergency when temperatures drop below 32 degrees. When this happens, Trinity Church opens its gym up from 7pm-6:30am to anyone in the county that needs a warm space to stay. We provide warmth, safety, and hospitality to a diverse group of individuals who are unable to shelter themselves elsewhere. Trinity Church is seeking a Code Blue Intake Specialist/Safety Facilitator to set up and clean up the Code Blue space (depending on shift), greet and check in community members, and ensure a safe, healthy, welcoming environment for all.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with staff and volunteers to provide a safe space for community members experiencing homelessness to stay warm and safe
• Code Blue space management (depending on the shift): set-up the space for use, prepare and/or make available food and refreshments, regularly monitor space for safety and security (including restrooms and unused areas), clean-up facilities, secure space for daytime use
• Code Blue participant management: welcome participants, check-in, store belongings, explain policies and procedures, monitor participant interactions for safety and comfort and address needs as they arise, check-out
• Experience and comfort working with emergency services and outside organizations such as EMTs, local police and outreach groups
• Maintain proper paperwork for Trinity Church and for each participant
• Use de-escalation techniques as needed to address any behaviors that may disrupt a calm, welcoming environment
• Remain awake, alert, and responsive at all times
• Work with a diverse group of individuals of all age groups including youth
• Perform other related duties as required

Preferred Qualifications & Requirements:

• We are seeking a caring, compassionate, energetic, self-starting and exceedingly well-organized individual with demonstrated expertise in communications and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Mature, nonviolent de-escalation skills
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Available to work most nights of the week
• Spanish language skills are a plus

Experience:

The Intake Specialist / Safety Facilitator must have experience working in security, community safety, shelters, or other community settings with those experiencing homelessness. Must have knowledge of, and experience with, non-violent de-escalation techniques.

Hours

The Code Blue Intake Specialist/Safety Facilitator will work up to 40 overnight hours per week. Hours worked will depend on the number of nights that a Code Blue Emergency is called. There are three shifts available: 6:30 PM – 12:30 AM, 12:30 AM – 7:00 AM, and 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (full overnight shift). The Safety Facilitator must have availability on weekends. Hours/availability and time off are to be determined in consultation with position supervisors. This position is for a fixed term of November - April, although it may be renewable the following year for the winter months.

Salary

The Code Blue Intake Specialist/Safety Facilitator shall be paid $23 per hour. This position does not include benefits.
