Oncology Clinical Pharmacist – Summary
The oncology clinical pharmacist plays a key role in cancer care by ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medications like chemotherapy and other high-risk drugs. As part of a healthcare team, this pharmacist helps manage drug-related issues such as proper selection, dosage, side effects, and interactions. The role also involves monitoring lab results, adjusting treatments based on organ function, and staying current with cancer therapies, including supportive care and pain management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to optimize cancer medication use.
- Develop and review treatment protocols and clinical pathways.
- Participate in committees to review medications and policies.
- Track and report patient outcomes related to oncology medications.
- Assist with investigational drug services.
- Educate patients and families on chemotherapy and promote adherence.
- Train pharmacy staff and other healthcare providers.
- Innovate and maintain oncology pharmacy services.
- Use data to assess and improve medication programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required; PharmD or residency preferred.
- Licensed Pharmacist in Oklahoma (required); BCOP preferred.
- At least 4 years in clinical pharmacy; 3 years in oncology (outpatient preferred); 2 years in a supervisory role preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
Working Conditions:
- Monday–Friday schedule, with possible travel between clinic sites.
- Exposure to chemotherapy agents and patient care settings.
- Requires sitting/standing for long periods and occasional lifting (up to 40 lbs).
- Must have normal vision and hearing (with correction if needed).

* Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, or evaluate the quality or effectiveness of drugs or drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications or characteristics.
* Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities.
