The Childcare Ministries' mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment that introduces children to the
life, love, and grace of God and to the richness of being an interdependent member of creation and the human
community. Trinity Lutheran's Childcare Ministries mission, programs and staff are under the management
of the Director of Childcare Ministries, who is responsible to Trinity Lutheran's Congregational Council and
reports directly to the Pastor responsible for staff administration.
Lead Teacher Job Description
Qualifications:
*Willingness and ability to instruct children in the word of God in a way which is appropriate to the development level of the children and in accordance with the beliefs of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and of Trinity Lutheran Church Congregation.
*Have a high school diploma and classes or degree in Early Childhood Education. Regardless of level of Degree, teachers must possess the Initial 30 Hours STARS certificate required by MERIT/DCYF. Each year following there is a requirement of 10 hours of STARS training.
*Experience working in a preschool or pre-k setting and or childcare setting.
*Must have current CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens training, HIV/Aids Certificate
*Must have a tuberculosis skin test with a negative result.
*Must have a background clearance through the Department of Early Learning and Finger Printing.
*Ability and stamina to be active and interacting with children on their level.
*Ability to recognize and record significant individual and group behavior.
*Evidence of emotional maturity, stability, calmness, and good judgment in crisis situations.
*Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
General Duties:
*Plan and execute an educational lesson plan which is appropriate for the ages of children who are in your class at the time, in accordance with the goals and beliefs of Trinity Lutheran Church; providing a nurturing, safe, and loving environment. The lesson plan must meet the emotional, physical, cognitive, social and spiritual needs of both the individual and group.
*Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in all activities.
*Be an appropriate role model in dress, speech, and actions.
*Use appropriate, positive and consistent discipline. Ability to work effectively with young three and four year olds.
*Report to the Director of Childcare Ministries.
Specific Duties:
*Plan, prepare, schedule, and execute classroom and outdoor activities for children of the age level assigned.
*Write lesson plans based on the theme for the week from our curriculum books or your own ideas. Have Program Supervisor sign off.
*Co-ordinate with and work as a team with other preschool and pre-k teacher.
*Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior; maintain records and files for children. Report to parents when necessary, and keep staff informed of program goals and children’s development.
*Establish and maintain good communication with the families on a daily informal basis, and have parent teacher conferences as needed.
*Supervise and assist with meal time, snack time, naptime, toileting, and teach appropriate skills for that age level (grace, use of utensils, napkins, hand washing, pouring, etc.)
*Prepare a safe environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing, and which permits the children to grow and to explore.
*Clean room during the day as needed; floors swept and mopped after meals, counters and tables washed with soapy water and bleached, sinks cleaned, toys sterilized each week and as needed and materials and toys put away each day.
*Assist in keeping the office, kitchen and hallways clean and orderly.
*Attend all staff meetings and in service trainings.
*Attend trainings and workshops for MERIT hours and to improve skills and understanding of child development.
*Adhere to Limits of Authority as outlined below and perform other duties as requested by the Program Supervisor or Director.
* Must provide advance notice for all absences and must have reasonably good health and must have the ability to be active with children and not overly absent, as this negatively effects the classroom.
Limits of Authority:
*Possess authority to take following action: change a scheduled daily activity, change room arrangement, discipline a child, discuss child’s development with their family.
*May take action, but must inform appropriate person: change in curriculum for program, leave the building with children, calling family about a sick child.
*Must have prior approval to: transfer a child to another class, remove a staff person, order new equipment, release a child to an unauthorized person, refer parents to outside resources, take time off or change their shift.
Evaluation:
Performance in this position will be evaluated on an on-going basis, with formal evaluation occurring annually in accordance with policies specified in the Personnel Manual.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.74 - $23.87 per hour
