Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused Facilities Maintenance Technician to manage the daily upkeep and structural safety of our local childcare center in Swarthmore, PA. The ideal candidate is a proactive general handyman who understands how to maintain a building while keeping the environmental safety of young children as their top priority. You will ensure our indoor classrooms, utilities, and outdoor playground areas remain welcoming, sanitary, and structurally sound.
Core Responsibilities
- Child-Safe Repairs: Execute daily repair tickets (replacing lightbulbs, fixing door latches, tightening cabinet locks, painting) with meticulous care to keep child spaces clean and free of hazards.
- Playground Infrastructure: Inspect outdoor playground equipment daily for structural integrity, removing splinters, tightening loose bolts, and ensuring impact-absorbing ground cover is safe.
- Childproof Wall Anchoring: Securely bolt and anchor heavy bookshelves, storage cubbies, lockers, and learning boards to wall studs to prevent tip-over accidents.
- Utility Care & Air Quality: Replace air purifier and AC unit filters to maximize indoor air quality and perform basic troubleshooting on environmental climate controls.
- Sanitation & Plumbing Maintenance: Swiftly repair low-flow toddler toilets, handwashing sinks, and drinking fountains to maintain clean sanitation standards.
- Strategic Schedule Management: Plan loud, disruptive, or chemically sensitive tasks (heavy drilling, painting, chemical application) outside center operational hours or during designated nap times.
- On-Call Emergency Response: Participate in an on-call rotation to respond promptly to after-hours building emergencies, such as severe weather damage, plumbing leaks, or security/alarm issues.

Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Mandatory Background Clearance: Must pass a rigorous federal fingerprinting protocol, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, criminal background screenings, and National Sex Offenders screenings before starting work.
- Mandatory Health Screening: Obtain a PA staff health assessment and PD test before starting work.
- Professional Experience: Minimum 2 years of verified experience in commercial property maintenance, residential remodeling, or general carpentry/handyman trades.
- Local Travel: Must be able to travel between our 4 locations within the Wallingford/Swarthmore school district.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift to 50 lbs., safely climb tall ladders, and stand or bend comfortably for long intervals.
· Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification is preferred; a valid driver’s license is required.

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
