TrinityRail is searching for a Manufacturing/Industrial Design Engineer to join our team in Dallas, Texas.
What you'll do:
- Evaluate designs and products for ease of manufacturing and compliance with regulatory and contractual standards in terms of material, stability and performance
- Work both independently and closely with manufacturing operations, supply chain, and tooling to optimize designs and assembly process steps for manufacturability
- Be a self-starter in defining all engineering tasks to meet project objectives and have the ability to quickly learn about new processes with very little information provided
- Develop and execute project plans for DFM&A activities
- Create or serve as project leader for production of layouts, specifications, prototype build drawings and bill of materials
- Oversee the production of related models and drawings
- Maintain external relationships with vendors, focusing on the engineering and operating personnel at regarding non-standard components and technical developments
- Work with internal and external customers in optimizing products and processes with quality, performance, production and profitability in mind.
- Ensure design intent is maintained
- Administer the assembly and process execution of NPI for proto, pilot and production builds
What you'll need:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial) required
- 3 years’ experience of engineering procedures and administration; emphasis on railcar design or other large fabrications is preferred
- Demonstrate hands-on mechanical ability
- Extensive working knowledge of heavy manufacturing process and tooling
- Outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal/Bilingual Spanish is plus
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills required
- Ability to multi-task multiple projects of differing scale
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing facility environments
- Demonstrated ability to execute all phases of product design, prototype development, product analysis and manufacturing processes while conforming to applicable regulatory standards and practices. Knowledge of AAR interchange rules preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing
- Prior engineer position with a custom product, freight and/or tank car production or maintenance preferred
- Knowledge of weld process and industry standards
- Experience in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor is preferred
- Experience with Risk assessment, planning, time standard, visuals and standard work
