School Year 2026-2027: Middle School English Language Arts Teacher at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts | Providence, RI

TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a Middle School English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher is responsible for student achievement in a combined 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts course that integrates reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and literacy development within one cohesive instructional model.

The ideal candidate is an experienced English Language Arts educator who understands that strong literacy instruction includes both meaningful engagement with complex texts and explicit, evidence-based instruction in reading and writing. The teacher will implement EL Education, TAPA’s adopted high-quality instructional materials for English Language Arts, and will support instruction aligned with Rhode Island’s Science of Reading expectations.

TAPA’s creative community is strengthened by the wide range of cultures, languages, family backgrounds, learning profiles, and lived experiences represented by our students, families, and staff. Nearly all members of the TAPA student body are students of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPA’s student body also identifies as part of the LGBTQ community. We aim to hire staff members who understand, respect, and value the strengths, identities, and experiences our students bring to school.

At TAPA, English Language Arts is taught through arts-integrated instructional practices using EL Education as the core curriculum. The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher teaches one integrated English Language Arts course across 7th and 8th grade sections, with reading and writing taught together as part of a coherent literacy block. The teacher is expected to follow the structure and intent of the EL Education curriculum while thoughtfully connecting literacy instruction to students’ artistic, academic, and personal development.

The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher teaches four classes, each with approximately 20 students. They will also work directly with a smaller group of Middle School students to lead an Advisory. It is the hope that an Advisor stays with their advisory throughout the students’ middle school years at TAPA. Advisory provides an opportunity for social-emotional learning and support. The Advisor/Advisee relationship ensures that every student has a school-based advocate and a first-line connection to TAPA. Advisors and Advisees build strong relationships through consistency, care, and trust.

At TAPA, the arts are deeply embedded into the core of interdisciplinary learning. TAPA prepares students to successfully meet or exceed Rhode Island’s graduation requirements and perform at or above grade level on all state and local assessments. TAPA meets each student’s individual academic needs using assessment data and continuous feedback while providing clear academic, social, and artistic expectations.

At its core, TAPA is a student-centered, caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. We seek candidates who believe that all students deserve rigorous instruction, strong relationships, clear expectations, and meaningful opportunities to grow as readers, writers, thinkers, artists, and members of a school community. Candidates with experience supporting multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students from historically underserved communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
