Job Objective

To accurately receive, verify and accept shipments of parts of supplies and maintain all assigned records in a current and complete status. To prepare all outgoing goods for prompt and accurate shipment according to established procedures and timetables for sales orders and subcontract jobs. To prepare outgoing subcontract goods for prompt and accurate shipment according to established procedures, timetables and special instructions. Responsible to locate, make physical, and cycle counts of parts as a basis for maintaining accurate inventory levels to assure a smooth flow of materials throughout the facility. To locate and stage inventory as required for production. To move material from one department to another, in order to meet operational flow, or locate into inventory when required. Responsible for moving and locating materials throughout the plant. Loading and unloading of all trucks.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • May randomly be required to replace short haul driver, in case of absence or on long distance trips. This does not include the movement of hazardous materials.
  • Unloads and accepts shipments, verifies received shipments against purchase orders, notifying Supervisor as required for assistance in resolving discrepancies or other problems. Verifies received shipments against BOL, notifying supervisor/coordinator as required for assistance in resolving discrepancies or other problems. If necessary, files freight claim and notifies all concerned parties.
  • Loads outbound shipments, verifies units loaded with the carrier, notify supervisor of any discrepancies. Reviews freight nightly to ensure all pick-ups were made. Notifies CSR and carriers of missed pick-ups.
  • Keeps accurate job records by entering components, finished goods and their traceability into inventory to prevent and ensure parts are not misplaced. Does a visual check while performing their daily duties, notifying QA of any problems.
  • Is required to check messaging system and act accordingly to ensure non-stoppage in production areas. These tasks may include dumping scrap steel, providing empty tubs, pallets or crates and locating finished product.
  • Monitors inventory levels in tubs, downsizes to appropriate storage container when appropriate to aid in keeping empty tubs available for use in the production areas.
  • Places received inventory into warehouse locations and ensures all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Monitors bar stock, sheet and coil steel inventory and stages into the vertical storage area for use utilizing FIFO.
  • Stage production packets component parts for required production areas as prepared by PIC production job. These areas include zinc plating, chrome plating, media tumble, buffing, machining and stamping. Ensuring correct components are staged for each job thus eliminating the chance of scrap/obsolete/excess inventory. Oldest inventory should be used first ensuring a FIFO system is maintained.
  • Maintains upkeep of design/sales mockup area, disposing of cardboard and scrap.
  • Accurately weighs and determines parts and counts for sub-contract jobs, utilizing FIFO.
  • Return unused inventory not required by the production packet to the proper area ensuring that all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Stages crates for use in assembly, ensuring the cell is able to run continuously without delays in production.
  • Stacks and returns empty tubs to proper departments for use in upcoming production jobs.
  • Assists sort/rework, incoming inspection staff with material handling as needed.
  • Delivery of chemicals and compounds to appropriate department / storage areas.
  • Maintains records of items to be recycled, verifies items being picked up with the carrier and generates the appropriate shipping documents. These items may include wire, chrome scrap, paint scrap, cardboard, zinc and scrap steel.
  • Removes obsolete inventory from storage and assures proper disposal.
  • Helps keep work area in a cleared and orderly condition to minimize safety hazards and lost-time accidents. Is required to be actively involved in 5S standards.
  • Orders or advises Coordinator/Supervisor of required supplies needed to perform job objective.
  • Follows established safety procedures and policies at all times.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.
  • This position supports the continual improvement and compliance of QMS and EMS.

Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required

  • Thorough knowledge of parts and materials used in manufacturing operations, as well as some blueprint reading.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and any special instructions related to receiving parts and supplies, shipping to customers and returning of any goods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and help train new hires within the department. Is also required to work closely with CRS, Procurement and P&IC.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, vendors and freight lines concerning dates, quantities and purchase orders. Also gives directions and tracks product.
  • Ability and knowledge to move material from one department to another in order meet operational flow.
  • Ability to work accurately performing PC functions, mathematical calculations/conversion and scale operations.
  • Knowledge of the parts numbering system, inventory control procedures and the various operations and departments which produce or modify parts.
  • Knowledge of the location of various production stations where parts are being used and the appropriate production state of each part.
  • Ability to recognize parts and their corresponding part numbers.
  • Ability to do multiple tasks and work with frequent interruptions.
  • Skill in operating a forklift in a safe and approved manner.
  • Skill in operating the sheet steel hoist in a safe and approved manner.
  • Skill in operating the coil steel hoist in a safe and approved manner.
  • Skill in operating various scales in a safe and approved manner.
  • Skill in operating automatic pallet wrapper in a safe and approved manner.
  • Skill in operating dock plates, lights, overhead and trailer doors.
  • Skill in operating self-dumping hoppers in a safe and approved manner.
  • Skill in material handling involving hazardous materials.
Judgment Required

  • Determine accuracy and general quality of goods received and signed for.
  • Determine accuracy and general quality of goods loaded for outbound shipment.
  • Recognize and reconcile discrepancies and to realize when assistance from Supervisor/Coordinator is required.
  • Ensure records are completed accurately and completely, following through to obtain corrected information.
  • Ensure customer and supplier data is properly inputted into system for prompt delivery and payment of orders.
  • Recognize when trailers are not safe to load/unload product and realize when assistance is required from other resources.
  • Recognize when special handling is required when off/loading raw materials, chemicals or oversized freight.
  • Establish the location of parts in a minimum amount of time.
  • Recognize safe pallet storage, such as wrapping, ensuring the pallet is not broken/damaged, pallet adequately fits in the rack minimizing the amount of overhang. To establish the location of parts in a minimum amount of time.

Working Conditions

Must be available to work overtime, weekends and flex shifts as required to meet the company’s business demands.

Generally good, with some exposure to adverse weather and road surfaces when loading or unloading outside. Working area is normally dry with temperatures normal for the season. Dock area becomes cold in winter when prolonged loading and unloading occurs (10 minutes or more) and requires additional clothing. In the warmer months, the floor on the dock will sweat and extreme caution is required when operating forktrucks. Noise levels are between 50-80db.

Uniform safety practices consist of safety shoes, safety glasses, and gloves or other protective equipment as needed for safe handling of shipments. This area requires normal or corrected vision, normal depth perception and peripheral vision of 180 degrees and no color deficiency. Hearing protection is not required but is available.
