As a Scientist at TrilliumBiO, you will contribute to the design, development, and validation of diagnostic assays that advance clinical and rare disease testing. You will collaborate across teams to ensure scientific rigor, regulatory compliance, and the successful launch of innovative testing solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

Research & Development

  • Lead the establishment and execution of study design protocols to support research, feasibility studies, and product development initiatives
  • Independently design, develop, and execute complex experiments for product development and qualifications
  • Conduct research utilizing molecular biology techniques (PCR, next-generation sequencing) and proteomics approaches (assay development, biomarker analysis)
  • Develop and optimize cell-based and biochemical assays including ELISA and flow cytometry for product characterization
  • Support the design and execution of verification and validation plans for new assays and analytical methods
  • Prepare and presents analysis/findings and issues/solutions to peer groups, manager and/or clients
  • Establish and monitor direct report performance and development goals, providing continuous feedback and recognition
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), customers, and strategic partners
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operational teams to support assay transfers, staff training, and implementation
  • Communicate regularly with R&D teams to align priorities, troubleshoot challenges, and propose solutions
  • Provide scientific and technical support across the organization
  • Foster a collaborative and productive laboratory environment
  • Follow all laboratory protocols, SOPs, and company policies
  • Identify and escalate quality issues, contributing to corrective actions and recommendations
  • Support assay transfers and implementation into routine operations
  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe BSL2 laboratory environment
  • Stay current with technological developments and advancements in life sciences
  • Expand knowledge through independent learning and share relevant insights with colleagues
  • Perform literature and market research on new research and product areas
  • Take on additional roles as needed to support the R&D organization, such as training or lab management activities


Technical Expertise

  • Perform complex immune cell assays including multiparameter flow cytometry, in vitro cell-based assays, live cell analysis, and multiplex assays
  • Apply advanced molecular biology techniques, including quantitative PCR (qPCR), digital PCR (ddPCR), next-generation sequencing (NGS), Sanger sequencing, and nucleic acid extraction/quantification methodologies
  • Utilize hands-on experience with DNA/RNA sequencing and bioinformatics tool
  • Apply proteomics knowledge to product development, assay design, and characterization
  • Troubleshoots and optimizes experiments; communicates issues and solutions to managers
  • Analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical software and prepare comprehensive tables and graphs
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret scientific and statistical data to drive project decisions
  • Maintain detailed, organized experimental records and laboratory notebooks
  • Prepare technical documentation including validation reports, SOPs, batch/test records, and technical reports
  • Present findings, analyses, and recommendations to peer groups, management, and customers


EDUCATION & DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in biotech or life sciences
  • 10 years of experience working in a BSL2 environment
  • 5 years of experience in assay and method development in an industry setting
  • Strong publication record demonstrating scientific expertise
  • Hands-on experience with a range of immunology, molecular, and analytical laboratory platforms and instrumentation
  • Experience in analyzing complex scientific data
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities; strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent judgment, cognitive skills, innovative thinking, and problem-solving abilities; ability to react to situations with a sense of urgency and responsibility
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels (verbally and in writing), both internally and externally
  • Positive teamwork-based attitude, a champion for our people, values, culture, company, and brand
  • Strong ability to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical analysis tools
