Cost Accountant

Location: Brundidge, AL

Reports To: Controller / Finance Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support daily accounting operations within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on executing cost analysis, maintaining accurate product costing, and supporting financial reporting. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and comfortable working closely with operations to ensure cost accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Analysis

• Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead.
• Analyze manufacturing costs and track variances between standard and actual costs.
• Investigate and explain cost discrepancies, including material usage, labor, and production variances.
• Prepare cost reports to support operational and financial decision-making.

Inventory & Manufacturing Support

• Monitor inventory transactions and ensure accuracy of inventory valuation.
• Reconcile inventory accounts and support cycle counts and physical inventories.
• Partner with production and warehouse teams to validate inventory and costing data.
• Review and analyze bill of materials (BOMs) and routing structures.

Financial Reporting & Close

• Support month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Assist in preparing financial reports related to cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory.
• Ensure accuracy of cost-related financial data within ERP systems.

Process Improvement

• Identify and implement improvements in costing and inventory processes.
• Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Support system enhancements and automation efforts related to cost accounting.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with operations, procurement, and finance teams to ensure alignment on cost data.
• Provide cost insights to support pricing, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
• Assist with audits by providing documentation and analysis as needed.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

Experience

• 2–5 years of cost accounting or related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with ERP systems and inventory management processes.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
