Job Summary :
The Change Administrator / Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of change management within the IT infrastructure of a government contract. This includes planning, coordinating, and implementing changes to systems, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. The role combines technical expertise in system administration with strong change management skills to improve system performance and ensure secure, efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities :
Change Management : Develop, implement, and enforce a structured change management process to ensure seamless integration of changes across the organization's IT infrastructure.
Coordinate change activities across different teams, ensuring that all changes are tracked and communicated effectively.
Perform impact assessments for proposed changes and provide recommendations to minimize risks and system downtime.
Maintain detailed records of all change requests, approvals, and implementation steps.
Provide ongoing operational / repetitive systems administration and configuration support for web and database environments, including associated applications and utilities, with sufficient backup resources to ensure 24 / 7 operations.
Systems Administration : Manage and administer system environments (servers, networks, databases) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Provide operational support and ongoing systems administration for environments such as Micro Focus COBOL and Solaris Unix.
Implement and maintain security policies, best practices, and compliance measures to safeguard systems and data.
Coordinate system software releases, including managing job and script releases, as well as providing after-hours support for emergency application releases.
Ensure proper disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity planning, preparation, and testing, in compliance with IT security requirements.
Collaboration : Work with cross-functional teams (development, operations, support) to ensure that change management is aligned with business objectives and IT goals.
Act as the single point of contact (SPOC) between IT support personnel for the OCA environments, managing communication and coordination effectively.
Coordinate and plan system maintenance activities with internal teams, contractors, and external vendors.
Coordination and Scheduling : Coordinate and manage job scheduling, including adding / removing jobs from the production schedule.
Manage emergency and last-minute schedule changes, ensuring business continuity and minimal disruption to operations.
Provide follow-ups to ensure job aborts are reviewed and resolved promptly, ensuring smooth system operations.
Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate documentation related to system configurations, change management processes, and post-change evaluations.
Prepare regular reports and metrics on system performance, uptime, and the effectiveness of changes.
Risk and Compliance : Ensure that all changes adhere to internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate and mitigate potential risks associated with system changes, including testing and rollback plans.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience (5 years) as a Senior Systems Administrator or similar role.
Strong knowledge of change management frameworks (e.g., ITIL) and industry best practices.
Expertise in system administration (Windows, Linux, or both) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premise infrastructure.
Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
In-depth understanding of networking protocols, security principles, and system backup strategies.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in compliance with government contract requirements and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications :
ITIL or other relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Change Management Professional, Certified Systems Administrator).
Experience with the OCA IT support environment (Micro Focus COBOL, Solaris Unix).
Experience providing operational support for web and database environments, with knowledge of systems such as COBOL.
Experience with disaster recovery testing, business continuity planning, and IT security requirements.
Experience with coordinating job scheduling and managing changes to production schedules.
Experience with coordinating emergency or last-minute schedule changes.
Knowledge of automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Previous experience working on government contracts or with government-related IT projects.
