Our focus centers on ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households – families who make more than the Federal Poverty Level but don’t earn enough to cover the rising costs of living. As ALICE households continue to grow, we’re working on bold, community-rooted solutions to support families in getting ahead when it is harder today than ever before.
About the Role
The Family Coach is a frontline service provider responsible for conducting client assessments, connecting individuals and families to appropriate resources, and offering intensive service navigation and follow-up. The Family Coach works directly within one or more Centers for Strong Families, meeting face-to-face with individuals and families seeking support. This role provides personalized financial and resource navigation, conducts assessments, and develops stability plans that reflect each family’s goals and strengths. The Family Coach partners closely with community organizations to ensure clients receive seamless, wraparound support.

8:30am to 4:30pm


PAY


$26.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Client In-Take Assessments
  • Conduct thorough one-on-one intake assessments using CharityTracker, identifying barriers to financial stability (housing, food insecurity, transportation, employment, childcare, etc.).
  • Develop individualized service plans in collaboration with the client, including both immediate needs and longer-term goals.
  • Clearly explain the scope of Center for Strong Families services and eligibility criteria based on the allowable expenses as outlined in program agreements.
  • Ensure appropriate consents are signed and confidentiality policies reviewed and upheld.
Resource Navigation and Case Support
  • Provide referrals to in-house programs and external community partners using established Centers for Strong Families network.
  • Coordinate with referral partners to address client needs.
  • Follow up on referral partners to address client needs and progress to troubleshoot barriers and promote successful outcomes.
  • Leverage online and communication platforms to coordinate referrals and maintain contact with clients and partner agencies.
Client Follow-up and Progress Monitoring
  • Schedule and conduct regular follow-ups to monitor client progress.
  • Adjust service plans based on evolving client needs.
  • Provide encouragement, coaching, and support to help clients achieve financial stability milestones.
  • Conduct structured 30, 60, and 90 day check-ins and document all updates in CharityTracker.
Data Management and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation all client interactions, service plans, and outcomes in CharityTracker and other designated systems.
  • Track key indicators related to financial stability, including income changes, benefits accessed, and crisis resolution.
  • Uphold all data privacy standards and client confidentiality in accordance with Trident United Way policies
Community and Partner Engagement
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources, eligibility criteria, and emerging programs that strengthen family stability.
  • Build and sustain strong working relationships with partner agencies and service providers.
  • Participate in Centers for Strong Families and community resource meetings, working groups, and professional development opportunities.
Client Advocacy and Crisis Intervention
  • Provide light-touch case management for clients in complex or crisis situations, ensuring warm handoffs to appropriate mental health, housing, or legal support agencies.
  • Apply best practices such as trauma-informed approaches and motivational interviewing techniques to build trust, promote client autonomy, and support meaningful engagement.
  • Serve as a liaison and advocate to help clients navigate complex systems such as DSS, housing authorities, unemployment services.

QUALIFICATIONS


Education & Experience


  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Social work, Human Services, or related field or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct service experience with vulnerable or underserved population.
  • Experience in case management, financial coaching, benefits navigation, or resource coordination strongly preferred.


Skills


  • Financial Empowerment: Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, savings, credit, debt management, and public benefits systems.
  • Motivational Coaching: Skilled in motivational interviewing, goal setting, and supporting clients through accountability and encouragement.
  • Systems Navigation: Understanding of local resources and service systems in areas such as housing, childcare, transportation, and employment.
  • Data & Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using case management systems such as CharityTracker; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Deep understanding of the realities faced by ALICE households; committed to a client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach.
  • Professionalism & Adaptability: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining empathy and composure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB


  • This job requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, within the office setting and relating to the position.
  • Must frequently use typical office equipment (telephone, copier, printer, fax, etc.).
  • Stationary at the desk most of the time.
  • Communicates with constituents, clients, and/or partners by phone and in person.

Office based setting.
