Hiring AR/VR Optical Engineer in San Jose, CA- Onsite
Title: AR/VR Optical Engineer
Location: San Jose, CA- Onsite
Type: W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $80 - $100
A global leader in semiconductor and display materials, is expanding into AI-enabled SmartGlasses and AR devices. We’re seeking an Optical Design Engineer to drive waveguide design, optimization, and performance validation for next-gen AR systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize PVH/diffractive waveguides and key optical KPIs
- Develop optical models and improve AR device performance
- Analyze material, process, and architecture impacts on waveguides
- Align optical models with experimental metrology through data-driven iteration
- Collaborate with computational, metrology, and integration teams
Qualifications:
- BS in Physics, Optics, EE, or related field
- 4 years experience in AR optical design, waveguides, or diffractive optics
- Experience with RCWA, FDTD, ray-tracing, and commercial tools (Zemax, LightTools, Code V, Lumerical, VirtualLab)
- Strong understanding of AR display architectures, optical metrology, KPIs, color/perceptual science
- Python/MATLAB coding experience; strong communication skills
