Job Description – Pipe Welder
We are seeking an experienced Pipe Welder to join our fabrication shop at our Canastota, NY facility. This role involves performing MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, along with pipe fit up and fabrication work as required. The ideal candidate can work independently, maintains a safe and organized work area, and consistently produces high-quality welds.
Candidates must successfully pass a weld test and demonstrate the ability to produce B31.1 X-ray quality welds.
This is a full-time, in-shop fabrication position.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed
- Primary schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Days) / 4:00 PM – 2:30 AM (Nights)
- Alternate schedules, including additional hours, evenings, weekends, or holidays, may be required based on business needs
Duties & Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts and welding procedures
- Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper (brazing)
- Weld in all positions and meet applicable quality standards
- Cut, bevel, fit, and weld pipe and fabricated components
- Grind, clean, and prepare weld joints
- Fabricate new parts and repair or modify existing components
- Change hoses, fittings, air valves, and related components as needed
- Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently
- Follow all safety policies and safe work practices
- Perform troubleshooting and problem-solving as issues arise
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Skills & Experience
- 3–5 years of welding experience preferred (certifications a plus)
- Strong knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes
- Experience welding steel, stainless steel, and copper brazing
- Ability to perform layout, fitting, and fabrication work
- Mechanical aptitude and basic wrenching skills
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate, through training and experience, the knowledge and skill required to perform welding work with minimal supervision. Qualifications emphasize quality and proficiency, not solely years of experience.
Must be able to:
- Perform welding operations using written or verbal instructions
- Apply various welding methods and equipment to standard fabrication and pipe welding tasks
- Meet company welding standards verified through destructive and non-destructive testing
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and crawl
- Ability to work in confined or awkward positions
- Regularly lift 20–50 lbs; occasionally lift more than 50 lbs
Working Conditions
- Work performed in a shop environment that may be noisy, dirty, or smoky
- Exposure to welding fumes, heat, sparks, infrared and ultraviolet radiation
- Potential hazards include electrical shock, burns, eye injury, cuts, and other shop-related risks
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, shields, and eye protection
Conditions of Employment
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must participate in direct deposit payroll
- Must obtain and maintain a valid New York State Driver's License
- Must maintain required welding certifications
- Overtime and non-standard work hours may be required
