About the Role
We are seeking a Safety Manager in our Sumter, SC location. The Safety Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and administering company and employee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines. This role partners with leadership, employees, contractors, and regulators to promote a strong safety culture, minimize risks, and protect both people and the environment.
Responsibilities
- Partner with leadership to establish HSE goals and objectives.
- Provide field-level HSE support and guidance across all operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop and track leading and lagging indicators to measure safety performance.
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective controls to reduce risks to ALARP.
- Lead incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action implementation.
- Own and maintain the site Emergency Response Plan and coordinate emergency response efforts.
- Conduct HSE audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
- Promote and coach Behavior-Based Safety practices to strengthen site culture.
- Develop and execute annual HSE training plans; deliver safety training at all levels.
- Serve as focal point for compliance programs including RCRA, SPCC, Title V, PPE programs, safety equipment, and uniform distribution.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to advance HSE performance.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree.
- OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 (General Industry) certifications.
- OHST certification.
- Minimum 5 years’ safety leadership experience in the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910), hazard communication (HAZCOM), lockout/tagout (LOTO), and other safety regulations.
- Proven ability to develop safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Proficiency with MS Office and experience in data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to engage and influence all levels of the organization, regulators, and external contractors.
- Strong organization, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Commitment to fostering a proactive safety culture and environmental stewardship.
- Willingness to obtain OSHA 501 and 511 certifications and EPA Title V Method 9 certification if not already held.
