What are the responsibilities and job description for the ABA Instructor position at Tribeca Preparatory?
Tribeca Prep is growing and we are looking to grow our team!
Tribeca Prep seeks creative, passionate, and dedicated teachers to support our highly diverse students — across a variety of grades, subject and clinical support areas.
Tribeca Prep is a 12-month independent special education early childhood and elementary school. (Our summer term is July -August, and the regular school year starts after Labor Day until June). Our program includes a significant quotient of academic learning in 1:1, 1:2 and small group settings. Our goal is to prepare our students for a less restrictive environment by developing both their academic and their social skills. Through our cohesive team of teachers, specialists and therapists, we offer our promising learners in grades PK-8, a rigorous, learner-centered education with integrated supports that foster independence and self-advocacy. To learn more about our school philosophy and strategic partnerships and to see glimpses of our classrooms and our robust sensory gym, please visit our website at https://tribecapreparatory.com.
All teachers, specialists and providers will attend regular staff meetings; many of these provide professional development in addition to information about students and/or upcoming responsibilities. Further, all employees develop a professional growth plan with their supervisor; regular reviews of goals and performance are provided for personal growth. Employees are encouraged to seek professional development in their areas of interest or need. Staff training is an integral part of professional development at Tribeca Prep. In addition to regular group meetings during the school day, all staff must attend scheduled Staff Development activities throughout the year, including days when the students may not be in attendance. Tribeca Prep is ideal for those adults who maintain a growth mindset!
The educational instructor will work in a team environment with a headteacher and other instructors/therapists to implement daily lessons and classroom activities. They should have prior experience working in special needs learning spaces. They should possess deep knowledge and passion for their area(s) of specialty within special education, allowing them to effectively cater to the diverse needs of the students.
Instructors work under the supervision of a Head/Lead teacher and work directly with students, 1:1 or 1:2 and in small groups. A typical classroom will have one Head Teacher, 5-6 instructors and 5-7 children. In addition to introducing academic material, instructors will also work to address behaviors and are required to gain their Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within 90 days of their start date.
Tribeca Prep uses Direct Instruction to guide our academic teaching and also has an extensive collection of materials for the instructor to use. A Bachelor's degree is required; one with a concentration in special ed or child development is preferred. Experience with children on the autism spectrum is important as is a willingness to participate in our professional development sessions, take offered webinars and relevant classes - in short, a growth mindset is your primary asset. An entry level job in special education, Tribeca Prep is a great place to strengthen your skills and explore your career interests. All of our teachers have a playful, upbeat energy that is fun for students and colleagues!
We provide supervised fieldwork hours for those seeking BCBA certification.
