What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Mechanic position at Tribe Transportation?
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator, the fleet mechanic is responsible for maintenance of the Tribe’s equipment and fleet.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Perform diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures and determine a course of action for damaged parts and systems.
- Repair malfunctioning components, retrofit engines, change brakes, adjust steering systems, replace worn-out parts, and change hydraulic fluids.
- Utilize computerized equipment along with lathes, welding torches, pneumatic wrenches, hydraulic jacks, screwdrivers, pliers, mallets, and precision gauges.
- Test drive fleet to diagnose assets for preventative and regular maintenance.
- Test drive assets before and after repairs to detect and correct any repairs.
- Install and implement driver communication system in all trucks to include additions to the fleet and equipment changes.
- Perform Safety inspections on tractors making sure that documentation required by the FMCSA, DOT, Federal, State, and local regulations are met
- Assist Express team in maintaining loaded trailers while on the yard.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay abreast with rapidly changing technology
- Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost- effective manner.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum five (5) years in working directly with diesel engines.
· CDL Required.
· Understands all maintenance sections of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
· ASE Certified Master Truck Equipment Technician Preferred.
· Ability to be flexible and multitask
· Positive attitude while under stressful conditions.
· Knowledgeable of safety requirements of equipment.
