Job Summary
The Alternative Investments Analyst will play a foundational role in our alternative investment operations. This position is designed for a recent undergraduate with strong analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to both learn and shape the inner workings of an alternative investment portfolio from the ground up. You’ll support deal evaluation, financial modeling, market research, due diligence, and internal fund operations while working closely with partners and founders. Primary Job Duties
- Deal Evaluation and Diligence: Assist in screening inbound deal flow and preparing initial assessments. Build and maintain financial models for early-stage companies, including revenue projections, unit economics, and scenario analyses. Support due diligence efforts across product, market, financial, and competitive dimensions. Prepares investment memos for discussion with SMSC leadership.
- Market and Sector Research: Conduct deep dives into emerging industries, technologies, and business models. Prepare research briefs and investment memos that inform partner discussions. Track macro trends, competitive landscapes, and relevant benchmarks.
- Investment Support: Help portfolio companies with financial analysis, KPI tracking, and operational reporting. Assist in preparing materials for board meetings, investor updates, and strategic planning.
- Portfolio Operations: Support internal reporting, fund performance tracking, and LP communications. Maintain internal databases, CRM systems, and deal pipeline tools. Contribute to process building as operations scale.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- 1-5 years of work experience in venture capital, private equity, commercial real estate development, or investment banking.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including comfort with Excel/Sheets and basic financial modeling.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear insights.
- Curiosity about startups, technology, and venture investing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑starter mentality with the ability to work independently in an unstructured environment.
- High attention to detail and a willingness to learn quickly.
