The ideal candidate for the Demographic Research & Planning Specialist position is an analytical, detail-driven professional with extensive experience in demographic research, mapping, and data analysis. With at least five years of full-time work in demography, urban planning, statistics, geography, or a related field, this individual is highly skilled in gathering and interpreting complex data sets from student records to regional population statistics to support district-wide planning decisions. They are proficient in statistical analysis, capable of generating accurate enrollment projections, and experienced in evaluating the impact of proposed attendance zone or boundary changes. This candidate is adept in GIS tools such as ArcGIS, well-versed in cartographic mapping techniques, and able to maintain precise, high-quality maps and demographic documents. They communicate findings clearly through reports, charts, graphs, and presentations, ensuring stakeholders have the information needed for informed planning. With strong research skills, Microsoft Office proficiency, and familiarity with demographic best practices, the ideal candidate thrives in both data-driven analysis and fieldwork, including on-site surveys to assess geographic and population trends affecting school capacity and construction planning.ResponsibilitiesPerform the collection, research and analysis of a broad range of demographic data sources such as student records, population data sets obtained from the district and local and state agenciesGenerate reports, graphs and charts to collate information collected and develop presentationsUse statistical analysis and develop student projections and enrollment by school or cluster for proposed boundary changesCompile and assess demographic research and statistical studies involving projections in enrollment fluctuations at schools and various areas in the districtParticipate in summaries and other written materials to ensure the access to demographic information and allow stakeholders to make informed decisionsAnalyze proposals for attendance zone changes and its effect on planning for school construction projectsRespond to inquiries related to zoning and enrollment data, including demographic and geographic issues from district staff and outside agenciesParticipate in field on-site surveys to determine demographic and geographic student population data and project classroom capacitiesDevelop and maintain zone grid maps to determine school locations, boundaries for the districtMaintains quality control of maps and documentsPerforms other related tasks requiredRequired Experience:Minimum of five (5) years full-time paid professional experience in research, mapping or data analysis in demography, urban planning, statistics, geography or any related field.Experience in compiling and analyzing school or enrollment data is preferredRequired Education:Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree in urban planning, mathematics, geography, economics or related field.Required Knowledge/Skills:Statistical methods of analysisGeographic Information Systems (GIS) and related computer software such as ArcGIS10Mapping concepts and techniques in cartographyResearch methods, principles and graphic presentationsMicrosoft Office proficiencyBest practices and terminologies in demography
