OVERALL POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), physician, or other licensed healthcare provider. The LPN supports clinical operations by delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in accordance with state regulations, organizational policies, and established clinical protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide individual nursing care to patients under the direction of the providers to include assisting with the care plan for assigned patients from verbal report, medical chart, and other patient records.
Implement care of patients by utilizing standing orders, such as completing medication refills, ordering and administering tests, and delivering routine preventative services.
Work in conjunction with providers to assist in coordinating care of patients to specialists, patient support services, patient education classes, and wellness programs.
To utilize all automated systems.
Administer medications as prescribed by providers and employ special clinical care techniques as required; maintain required records.
Administer injections and medications, dress wounds and incisions. Assist in minor surgery and perform related tasks as directed.
Administer medical testing, including but not limited to electrocardiograms, spirometry, and audiograms.
Assist in the examination and treatment of patients, including taking vital signs, drawing blood, extracting sutures, operating equipment, and placing soft casts or splints; catheterizations, cleaning wounds, applying medications and dressings, and assisting in minor surgical procedures and utilizing sterile techniques; obtain and record data for medical records.
Set up, clean, and disinfect examination rooms to include changing linen; set instruments and equipment for specific procedures; hand instruments, supplies, and equipment to the examining provider.
Pick up and deliver specimens, equipment, messages, and supplies as directed; maintain inventory of supplies in examination rooms; replenish as required.
Escort and/or transport patients to examination room and other clinic locations; schedule patient appointments and prepare related records.
Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; wash and sterilize a variety of medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice.
Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and medical terminology.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a strong commitment to patient care.
