Primary Role:
TMSA is seeking a visionary and dynamic District Science & STEAM Department Coordinator to lead, coordinate, and support the implementation and continuous improvement of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programming across all schools in our district. This leader will work collaboratively with school leaders, instructional staff, and external partners to ensure that S.T.E.A.M. teaching and learning at TMSA is rigorous, engaging, equitable, and aligned with our mission of preparing students for success in a technology-based society.
This position requires frequent travel between TMSA campuses located in Cary/Apex, Greensboro, Concord, and Charlotte. Candidates must be able to travel weekly and manage a flexible schedule.
Qualifications:

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a S.T.E.A.M.-related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Math); Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in education, with at least 3 years in a S.T.E.A.M. teaching or leadership role
- Demonstrated success in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and/or program coordination
- Strong knowledge of K–12 academic standards and best practices in project-based and interdisciplinary instruction
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze data, set measurable goals, and track progress toward outcomes
- Willingness to travel between campuses and support a multi-site district
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly between campuses.
Preferred:
- Experience in charter school networks or innovative educational environments
- Experience with instructional technology integration and blended learning models
- Familiarity with NC DPI and charter school accountability frameworks
- Grant writing or program development experience
Skills, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Vision
- Champion a district-wide vision for S.T.E.A.M. excellence in alignment with TMSA’s mission and core values.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive S.T.E.A.M. education strategy across all grade levels.
- Collaborate with school leaders and academic teams to integrate interdisciplinary project-based learning, career readiness, and student innovation.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Guide the development and adoption of high-quality, standards-aligned S.T.E.A.M. curricula.
- Promote instructional best practices and provide ongoing coaching and professional development for S.T.E.A.M. teachers.
- Utilize assessment data to monitor instructional effectiveness and student progress and recommend instructional adjustments to improve student outcomes.
Program Coordination and Support
- Coordinate district S.T.E.A.M. events and enrichment opportunities, such as robotics competitions, science fairs, hackathons, maker events, and art-tech showcases.
- Plan and oversee the annual TMSA S.T.E.A.M. EXPOs at the school and district levels, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and student engagement across all campuses.
- Oversee and support schools in pursuing and maintaining Cognia STEM Certification and the NC DPI STEM School of Distinction recognitions, ensuring alignment with all related frameworks, benchmarks, and evidence requirements.
- Work with school staff to build pathways for advanced S.T.E.A.M. coursework, career and technical education (CTE), dual enrollment, and industry certifications.
- Identify and implement technology tools and platforms that enhance teaching, learning, and creativity.
Partnerships and Innovation
- Develop partnerships with universities, industry leaders, museums, and nonprofit organizations to expand experiential learning and career exposure for students.
- Seek and manage grants or sponsorships that support S.T.E.A.M. initiatives.
- Stay abreast of national and global S.T.E.A.M. trends and innovation, and bring those insights to TMSA’s programs.
Equity and Student Engagement
- Promote inclusive and culturally responsive S.T.E.A.M. programming that engages all students, including underrepresented populations.
- Support the development of extracurricular clubs, mentorship opportunities, and student leadership roles within the S.T.E.A.M. fields.
Salary : $63,700 - $79,200
