Position Title: K-2 English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher

Position Overview
The K-2 English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, high-quality instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to young learners. This teacher will foster a love of literacy, build foundational skills in English, and support students' academic, social, and emotional growth. The ideal candidate will create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning styles and needs while promoting literacy development in alignment with state standards and the school’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery
- Design and deliver developmentally appropriate ELA lessons that align with state standards and school curriculum.
- Teach foundational literacy skills, including phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Foster students' writing development, introducing them to narrative, informational, and opinion writing.
- Use a variety of instructional methods, including whole group, small group, and individualized instruction, to meet diverse student needs.
- Integrate technology, hands-on activities, and interdisciplinary connections to make learning engaging and meaningful.
Student Assessment and Data Use
- Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
- Track and document student growth in reading and writing skills.
- Use assessment data to implement targeted interventions for struggling learners and provide enrichment for advanced students.
Classroom Environment
- Create a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
- Establish and maintain consistent routines and behavior expectations to promote a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Cultivate a love of reading and writing by introducing students to diverse texts and authors.
Collaboration and Professional Growth
- Work closely with grade-level teams and support staff to align ELA instruction and share best practices.
- Collaborate with families to support literacy development at home and foster strong school-home connections.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current on literacy instruction trends and strategies.
Community and School Engagement
- Contribute to school-wide literacy events, initiatives, and activities to promote a culture of reading and writing.
- Support the school’s mission to develop well-rounded, confident learners with a strong foundation in literacy.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field.
- Valid North Carolina teaching certification in Elementary Education or English Language Arts.
- Demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction for young learners.
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and foundational literacy skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field.
- Experience teaching ELA in K-2 settings.
- Familiarity with balanced literacy, science of reading, or other research-based literacy frameworks.
- Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms.
