Our client, a small and highly regarded residential structural engineering firm, is seeking a Structural Engineer with residential experience to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the art and problem-solving of residential design and wants to work closely with an experienced, passionate lead engineer in a supportive small-firm environment. This is a hybrid role with a flexible schedule. The selected candidate will be expected to travel to the client site periodically. Candidates local to Massachusetts and Rhode Island will be considered.
About the Role
This position centers around timber and engineered lumber design where you’ll work on a high volume of residential projects, which involve performing structural calculations, producing drawings, and conducting occasional site visits to interact with clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and 2D CAD drafting for residential timber and engineered lumber projects
- Prepare 2D drawings using AutoCAD and use BC Calc for calculations (training provided)
- Conduct occasional site visits (approximately twice a month)
- Communicate with architects, builders, and general contractors by phone, email, virtual meetings, and in person
- Manage project timelines, priorities, and deliverables in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround environment
- Assist with or grow into project management responsibilities, including coordinating with clients and managing workflows
- Work independently with limited supervision, demonstrating accountability and strong time-management skills
- Take initiative in problem-solving, decision-making, and driving project progress
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 2 years of structural engineering experience with residential/timber exposure
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit is a plus though not required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all client interactions
- Ability to manage a remote workflow, be self-directed, and stay organized
- Interest in professional growth, including the potential to take on leadership tasks over time

Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
