Role Description The Direct Support Professional is a full-time, on-site role based in Philadelphia, PA, providing hands-on support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in home and community settings. In this role, the professional assists with daily living activities, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks, while promoting independence and safety. The position includes implementing individual support plans, transporting individuals to appointments and community activities, and documenting services and progress in accordance with agency and regulatory standards. The Direct Support Professional also helps teach life skills, supports social and recreational engagement, and responds to behavioral or crisis situations using approved strategies. Collaboration with supervisors, clinical staff, families, and community partners is essential to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess knowledge or experience in Human Services, including supporting individuals in community-based or residential settings.
- Candidates should possess strong Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities to build trusting relationships and collaborate with individuals, families, and team members.
- Candidates should possess understanding of Intellectual Disabilities and person-centered approaches to support autonomy and inclusion.
- Candidates should possess Training experience or willingness to be trained in areas such as crisis intervention, medication administration (if applicable), and safety protocols.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in social work, psychology, or related fields is beneficial.
